My advice would be to do a search using DOGPILE & check the many SP sites to find out the background. I thot I read sometime back someone was putting together an FAQ for this ng but I haven't seen one yet. But some of the better sites have one.
SP debuted in its 1/2 hour format 10pm Wed. August 13, 1997 at 10pm, on Comedy Central. The 5 minute "Spirit of Xmas" tape was created for Christmas '95.
It was first aired back around August, but I don't know when those episodes were actually made. There were two short clips that have been around for even longer, but nobody heard of them until the show became popular.
