Ok perhaps I am reading to much in but my reading of the episode after the laughter and the grossness (really still hasnt gotten free from my psyche) wore off I sort of had a vision about a possible message of this episode. If you dont appreciate making something serious out of south Park stop reading now! It occured to me that the writers are saying something. The writers (Trey and matt) are saying that christmas has deteriorated into the worship of shit and all of the traditions we used to hold so dear have been glossed over by consumer images and fake ideals. This seems perfect right up to the point where Christ is singing happy bday to me. Of course in the original episode (spirit of XMas) we learned that children are more amazwed by media created stars than christmas tradition. Kyles Mom is a bitch!!!!! Woody
What else.. The christmas episode of course
No dude thats what they wanted you to think they were paying homage to one of the greatest cartoons ever made ren and stimpy cartoons kick ass

You hit it right on the nose... and THIS is why I have become pagan, religion nowadays is nothing but a bunch of hypocritical packaged bullshit.... Everybody's right and everybody's religion is THE religion and everyone else is going to hell.
But yeah, that was Matt and Trey's message allright, I saw them on Letterman was it? Leno? I don't remember.. I'm fried this season .. but these guys.. they're FREAKY... no one else coulda made South Park... these guys are OUT THERE... they came from the ship with the visitors on it. I'm tellin ya...

I'm
I hear ya Frank.. this is why I always tell Jehovah's Witnesses I'm a Satanist and have even converted a few (and no I'm not but it's a logical religion)...
You know what's funny? Trey and Matt simply designed the show to be controversial... and it's a lot like Mr Ray... it gets noticed, it gets attention. As someone once said, there's no such thing as bad publicity. I mean look at Marilyn Manson. I know we all hate him, but hell, look where he is. I knew Brian way back when (he's from here) and I know him well enough to know he's laughing hysterically... it's all an image and he knows he sucks, but he doesn't give a shit, just persecute him some more so more 15 year old kids will go buy his shit to rebel and see what all the noise their parents are making is about. But this is what I like about Trey and Matt, they're like the two people I formerly mentioned. Raise a few eyebrows and you've got an audience, no matter what you're selling. The more people protest, the raunchier they'll make the episodes, the more they'll shoot to offend. Makes them money and gets a point across, hitting two birds with one stone. These people who protest against shit like the Xmas special, are only doing exactly what Matt & Trey want... and they don't realize what a joke they really are, and that they're his bread and butter (See "Death" episode and you'll see what I mean.) But okay, off the soapbox for now...

Funny you should say that... I have a friend who's a satanist-- it's actually a lot more innocuous than it sounds. Satanists don't worship the devil, they worship the self, and just call themselves satanists to freak out the fundies. I'm all for it.

P.S. I have fun sometimes telling Jehovah's Witnesses that I've already read their literature, and offering them my copies of "The Satanic Verses", "Final Exit", and "Lady Chatterly's Lover".

EXACTLY!!! Satanism is humanism.. and since everyone is so u[pset about Chris Farley's death... what about Allister Crowley??? If we're gonna mourn Chris let's not forget Allister as well.. I'm a true pagan, and hey if your religion works for you, all themore power to ya. I read the Satanic Bible, and the hype os a bunch of shit. I think if more people read the Satanic Bible ratherthan listened to the news people would be a little less ignorant about what humanism actually IS rather than let the media think for them..

I thought he did too... WAIT!!!! My bad.. Anton LeVey... I keep getting them mixed up... Anton LeVey, the leader of the Satanic Church... that's who it was... I mean if all you Farley lovers are gonna procliam him the greatest comedian on earth, then give some credit to the others who passed this year, Michael Hutchence, Mother Teresa, Di, Versacce, John Denver, etc... but yes Baby Morris (REALLY curious about the name because my maiden name is Morris) I am proud to be pagan, and I'm really interested in learning about other religions,, alwaysd been interested and fascinated by the Buddhist philsophies...
My bad.. Anton LeVey.. few days before Halloween or was it after? I forot....

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it the night before Halloween? I remember vaguely his group trying to make some sort of public statement about Halloween playing a role in his death.

Well not EVERYONE, but let's just say the minority. The music for me is just too much like the shit that Trent threw away (I could go on for hours about that) ... but his dad being a minister? That's possible. To be honest I don't know. I don't know anything about his family. His family lives in Boca Raton (5 minutes north of me) and Boca is simply a place for snobs, so it's possible. If Brian DID say his father was a minister I wouldn't believe it. Brian has a tendency to say anything to cause controversy... who was it that said they say something on a Manson vs Charles Man fight on the net?

I don't think he said it. I believe I read it off the mailing list that I was on a while back. Or maybe it was the KoRn list, I forget which. I doubt he said it, in any case. As for music, what do you mean it's too much like what Trent threw away? I'm guessing you mean Trent Reznor, of Nine Inch Nails fame, but don't get your meaning about throwing the music away.
: :
Manson has always been Trent's prodigy, that's common knowledge. His music sounds too much like Trent's on acid. Ever since the two have known each other it's been that way. When Manson started out with the Spooky Kids, the music was MUCH different... I just resent that Manson got everything from riding on Trent's coattails. That's all I was trying to say. And I have no clue about his dad, never knew him that well, ...

I've never heard any of his Spooky Kids stuff, but there was a big change from Portrait of an American Family to Antichrist Superstar. I'll agree that Antichrist Superstar sounds like something Trent would do, but Portrait was something completely different. It had samples coming out the ass and a very playful feel to it, which I have never heard in anything Trent has ever done.
correct me if im wrong but i think hes talking more about the attitude of the music
because other than that i dont really see any connection between trent and marilyn

thats a good point. i wonder after every episode what message they (trey and matt) are trying to convey. i thought the same thing after the show. christmas has become far to commercial which detracts from the true meaning. yes, in my eyes it should be Christ centered, but then again for others and the non-religous, its a time for peace and goodwill, a time to step back and take account of our lives and how we act toward our fellow earthlings. its a time just to feel good about ourselves and to look for the good in others and to help the less fortunate.
No way dude, Christmas is about getting presents(or ham if you're Cartman).

Yes, definitely. And I would just like to add two things.
What makes each episode work for me is the fact that the SP creators do in fact have a "message" buried in each episode. If it were simply slapstick or toilet humor, the show wouldn't succeed as tremendously as it does.
The other thing, and with regards to the Christmas show, was while I agree with the previous posters that part of the show's message was that Christmas has become too commercialized and that we care more about the commercial aspects of Christmas than we do the spiritual aspects. I can help being in awe of Trey and Matt that they encapsilize this message in a turd. The whole show concerns itself with stopping or taking down anything which anyone might possible find offensive. And, at the end, all learn the true spirit of Christmas and the Holidays from an incredibly disgusting (offensive) messenger. That is called dramatic irony and it is a really achievement of the show's creators.

No, no, no, you hit on something there and Jesus at the end fell right into it.
Who was celebrating Jesus' bday with him, NOBODY!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus was all alone at Christmas cuz everyone is Worrying about the little turd and santa and presents
Brent Harris ([email]) wrote:
I got a slightly different message...I think that they were commenting on how everbody gets so offended by religious holiday symbolism, and they gave us an example of something REALLY offensive in order to put things in perspective. Compared to a talking piece of poo, nativity scenes, Christmas trees, and Christmas plays are pretty tame on the Offense-O-Meter.
