Terrance and Phillip

I wonder what was the source of inspiration for the Terrance and Phillip characters, and the idea to cast them as Canadians? Kids In The Hall? Though I actually see more similarity between T&P and Tom Green. Heck, they even both made a movie that is so bad that it had the audience walking out in disgust, except for some silly kids cackling away at the front. <g>

In the first season they were protrayed as Americans (in "Death", the flags on their space suits look a bit American, and in "Starvin Marvin" they pretty much recreated the American experience in moving to this land and celebrating the first Thanksgiving) But when Cartman went looking for his father, the preview for "Not Without My Anus" announces them as Canadian, without a reason why. Trey and Matt later say they modeled Terrance and Phillip after themselves, but as to why Canadian? Because no one had made fun of them yet. :).

I've heard some speculation that they're a sendup of this live-action kids' show called "Bananas in Pajamas" that was imported to the US from Australia a while back. The Bananas in that show have the same beady eyes as T&P and talk in the same TweedleDee/TweedleDum style.
