What is so bad about being an AOLer or having web TV? Does it make the rest of us special because we can afford a computer (or for a lot of you younger people, use your parents) or have been around longer to know that AOL's e-mail and surfing capabilities aren't the best? If it's a matter of being obnoxious, there are just as many non-AOL and web TVers that are even bigger pains in the ass.
Also, I don't use AOL for the Newsgroups or E-mail that much because you cant send and receive HTML mail and I like Outlook 98 a whole lot better for that, but I have an AOL account, and I'm a Beta tester for them also. Does not using AOL in this NG give me the right to "clean up the group and be one of the "elite"... I don't think so. Everyone has a right to an opinion as stupid as it may be, and I WILL flame on occasion, but I"m not going to go around harassing people to leave the NG or start mailbombing or do whatever it is that you want to do.

If you think the Internet is already awash with offensive and dishonest ''spam'' messages, just wait a few days. A small group of self-appointed Internet watchdogs has gone on strike, and has warned that the entire Internet could suffer dire consequences.
The strikers belong to a corps of so-called spam cancellers, people who take it upon themselves to delete junk e-mail, or spam, from the Internet's Usenet message board system. The Usenet features as many as 40,000 bulletin boards, or newsgroups, each devoted to messages on a particular topic, like physics, gardening, or sex.
Anyone with an Internet account can get access to Usenet, and put up as many messages as they want at no extra charge. Some businesspeople have taken the opportunity to pump out millions of messages promoting their products.
Reputable companies almost never send out Usenet spam. Most of the messages are for sex-oriented businesses and various get-rich-quick schemes. And the spam fighters say that the sheer quantity of messages threatens to overload the Usenet.
But Usenet messages can be deleted by sending out special ''cancel'' messages. A small group of Internet system administrators have done exactly that for several years, eliminating millions of spam messages before they could clutter up the system.
The spam cancellers are sick of playing janitor, however, especially since spammers haven't been deterred.
''The situation is clearly getting out of hand, and it's time for us to temporarily change tactics,'' said antispammer Chris Lewis, in a message announcing the strike.
Lewis and other spam fighters want to pressure Internet service providers to stop their customers from sending out spam in the first place. And they think they've found a clever new way to do this - by doing nothing.
Lewis predicted there will be 95 percent fewer cancel messages during the moratorium. On a recent day, over 170,000 spam messages were cancelled. During the strike, over 161,000 of these messages will end up on the Usenet. There are thousands of Usenet computers on the Internet, and a copy of each message is sent to each server. So the moratorium on spam cancelling could easily lead to hundreds of megabytes of spam flooding the Usenet.
''We're going to see a fairly dramatic increase in spam,'' predicted Ray Everett-Church, cofounder of the Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial E-mail in Washington, D.C. Everett-Church said that some Internet service providers might be forced to reduce or eliminate Usenet service in order to cope. Or they may have to introduce tough measures to stop their customers from sending out spam in the first place.
That's what the antispam forces are hoping for. ''There's a definite sense in the antispam community that ISPs are not taking as strong a stance against Usenet spam as they could or should, preferring to let the de-spammers do their work for them,'' said Everett-Church.
The spam fighters say they'll continue their strike for an indefinite period. ''This is because we don't want ISPs to implement short-term solutions,'' said Lewis.
Meanwhile, another group of Usenet activists is pushing an alternative solution. They're creating a new kind of Usenet service with strict controls on the behavior of users.
Work on Usenet II began in 1995. Today, the service hosts only a handful of newsgroups and is available from only a few ISPs. ''It hasn't had the same publicity as, say, spam has,'' said Peter da Silva, a computer systems administrator in Houston who has helped create the new system. ''We're not really trying to grow it superfast.''
Usenet II relies on ''czars,'' administrators who watch over the various newsgroups. The czars stamp out rude, vulgar behavior as well as spam. And ISPs that allow their customers to spam the Usenet II newsgroups are cut off from the system.
