Holy Crap! South Park is funny again!!!

Darth Chef was the first new episode that I laughed out loud at in a long, long time. Anyone else think this is the funniest episode that they've made in many years? Welcome back Matt and Trey, what took you so long?

I was trying to remember if an episode had ever made me laugh so much.

It wasn't necessarily the funniest episode, but it had some of the funniest moments. The "THIS IS WHAT SUPER ADVENTURE CLUB ACTUALLY BELIEVES" part had me howling, and I have to admit that I reacted similarly when the mountain lion ripped Chef's face off. In fact the whole death sequence had me in stitches, particularly when he was impaled. This isn't indicative of my attitude toward Chef; it was just so fucking funny!

Yeah it was the first time I was actually laughing my ass right off. Other episiodes were plain hilarious, but parts of this one were just too funny to shutup and keep watching.

Agree 100% The last few seasons had no really funny episodes.

But in all honesty, the real humor in the return of chef episode was all the references to many other past shows. Including using obvious edits for Chef's lines

I thought some of them were okay, but not nearly as good as the show I originally fell in lust with all those many years ago. The following are my opinions:

- The idea of seeing them as anime warriors got a couple of chuckles but then they fell sat on their asses running the same tired jokes over again. Something terrible happens to butters again, how amusing. There's a reason why they stopped the "OMG they killed kenny!" thing after a couple of seasons, because it got old and tired. Same thing with butters having bad shit happen to him, it's old and not funny anymore.

-Mildly amusing, but there weren't many jokes. Amusing situations, but not far enough from reality to be funny in a satirical way. I was no satellite dish coming out of cartman's ass or Chef being brought back to life by a child molesting cult by turning him into Darth Chef.

- This episode has a really good example of how the writing was getting really formulaic. Paraphrasing: "Jew I know you have gold around your neck" I immediately knew the whole bit they were about to do and I basically said the words along with them even though it was the first time I was seing the episode. "That's a myth about the gold" "just give it up." "Goddam it." Hands him gold. That shit was the same joke they've run a zillion times, it's not funny anymore. It was like every other sit com in the world. "C'mon honey, the only thing that could cause a problem with my plan is if junior wrecked the car." Cut to scene with junior in his wrecked car. Arg, the instant response to what was just said joke is SO played out.

I could go on, but I'm not going to. This is just my opinion, so you may disagree, but the past few seasons really weren't very funny at all. But season 10, judging by the first episode, looks like it may be a return to the good old days.

I agree with you totally -> this was a lame joke, almost embarrassingly so. but its from the day after the day before tomorrow, or whatever. But yes it was lame.

The passion of the jew is very funny and has a point as well. I thought t'was funny anyway, maybe cos Mel Gibson is a tiresome idiot.

Out of interest, what did you think of BFF, the terry shiavo episode? I thought it very clever AND funny, I was well impressed by that one.

BUT, have to admit the return of chef is amazing. Scathing satire that is on target, clever, funny, and UNSUEABLE (fuck you Co$). Unless Disney have a pop.

Yeah, BFF was one of the relatively funnier recent episodes. It wasn't as good as the older stuff, but it was still quite good. The funniest part was seeing congress sing in the heat of the moment. If only in real life those cold selfish bastards in DC had enough blood in their veins to be moved to sing a crappy 80's song.

And I guess that is the biggest comment I could make on this later episode; I didn't even remember it and could only remember the earlier episode which obviously made a much bigger impression on me.
