In Mr. Hankey's Christmas special, we see a number of people on Satan's A-list in hell. Most of 'em I agreed with, but Lady Di and John Kennedy Jr.? Seems unlikely candidates for entry into hell. But of course, in the movie, I believe I remember seeing Ghandi in hell, and the total population of Heaven was something like 1,609 - whereas hell was some bigass number that looked like it was a telethon tally for Jerry's kids...

If they were all Sadam and Hitler, it wouldn't get your attention. Gene Siskel, Princess Diana, JFK (&JR), and Micheal Landon get your attention. I doubt Matt and Trey believe any of these people are in Hell, and could care less. The irony is "Christmas Time in Hell". The idea, that we accept Satan celebrating the birth of Christ, is taken for granted in this situation, and IS the joke. That's the great thing about South Park, that you accept a big picture(Satan, a talking piece of poo), but get offended by the details. I marvel that they got the JFK Jr. thing in so quickly.

Partly I think it's just to shock...partly to make a point about how no one, however, revered is perfect...partly a slap at *all* religions for portaying heaven as being an exclusive place...all kinds of reasons, I think. (Remember in BLU, I think the total population of Heaven was <5000...for all mankind for all eternity...whereas hell's was growing by thousands every second...)
Well, in the movie, the presence of George Burns and Gandhi was a dig at rigid Christian theology, since they would be consigned to hell simply for not being Christians. Likewise, Michael Landon and Gene Siskel would be in hell for being Jewish.
Lady Di and JFK Jr. seem more like value judgments, but who knows?
Oh, damn! Of course! Since the entire thing was a big bitch against the MPAA, and Matt & Trey complained in an interview about the majority of the MPAA being 90-year-old churchgoers (sorry, I paraphrased the shit out of that, but I can't remember where I saw the interview)...
So we're down to the big two that nobody can figure out. Lady Di, I suppose, wasn't American, and JFK Jr... I can't get that one. I'm not sure that JFK Jr. should be condemned as much as the media who dragged out his death for weeks.
