Just got done watching tonights new xmas episode of South Park....WOW!! That has got to be one of the most creative things they've done in a long time, and it brings the entire South Park series full circle. I had reservations about the whole Hankey family thing, but they pulled it off very well and we got to see sides of both Mr. Hankey and Butters that we've never seen before. The whole concept of Cartman's orginal voice being so deep because it's actually Stan's voice is so far out that it works perfectly, as does the origin of Kenny's death on film and why the original SOX looked so crappy. My only gripe is that the Mayor's voice still needs some more work. All in all though, a terrific Xmas episode and a perfect way to end the year.

References

Mr Hankey's song to his son is obviously a parody of the "Lion King." However, it seems the tune of the song is based on the song "We Are One" from the made-for-video sequel, "Lion King 2: Simba's Pride".

The song Stan and Kyle sing is almost word for word based on a song in the old Rankin Bass Xmas special "The Night Before Christmas". This explains why Kyle's face contorts briefly to look like a Rankin Bass animated character, mouse-like teeth and all.

REVELATION We see Stan's hair for the very first time, at least some of it. It pokes out of his hat when Kyle wakes him up. If you havent seen it, I wont tell you what color it is.

That'd be a bit harder. They'd have to do something pretty creative to explain the whole "Kenny-Cartman" thing. :)

I do wonder how many people, who have never seen spirit of xmas, were a bit confused. They, unfortantly, cut out some stuff...like the Brian Boitano part. Although, I love that they actually showed the cut out of him.

Was there brian boitano stuff cut from last night's ep?

I guess I missed that thread....

I was kind of hoping they'd show us the whole Spirit of Xmas short, maybe at the end of the show. Anyone know if it's ever been shown on tv?

Dunno...personally, I would have really liked it if they just had redone it completely (like they did partially for last night's episode) and played that, be it in pieces to fit in w/ the plot of the episode last night, or all at once. The "original" looks like crap because the only available versions are dubs of dubs of dubs converted into RealPlayer format, etc.

Wasn't it an easter egg in a playstation game? Wonder if there are any rips of that, they should be pretty good, quality-wise.

I was talking about hearing Stan's voice when the focus is on Cartman AND Cartman's mouth is moving, etc. It's REALLY friggin' annoying when they're talking fast too. Although, visually it's alot better. Just that the audio/visual are out of sync.

Is this the 17463K MPEG version of the second Spirit of Christmas? I already have that one if it is...anyway, I was thinking of the even earlier Spirit of Christmas, the one that featured Jesus, Frosty, and a fake Santa who was really Frosty in disguise. The only version I have of that is a 3MB or so RealPlayer file that really sucks in quality. (Yes, I know that it was a crude production to begin with, but what I mean is that the picture is as big as a large postage stamp and is in RealPlayer format to top it off.)

Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour by EA for PSX. You had to stick the game into a PC drive to see SoXmas, couldn't see it on the PSX. And it was recalled. Those Bastards!!

Although, I'm sure there are many copies floating around on ebay.

Piece of cake. Just off the top of my head, here are a few ways they could do it.

1.	Cartman does something to piss off the other three. They say
screw it, we'll make the short without him, with one of them
imitating him. [In other words, a repeat of SOX2K up to this
point.] Then they decide they will REALLY show him by having
his character die in the movie. But they've already decided
that Kenny should die, and Kenny's not too happy about that.
Kenny mumbles something to the effect of "why don't you kill
Cartman's character instead of mine?" For once, the viewer
understands Kenny but the characters in the show don't.
Exasperated, Kenny mumbles "screw you guys, I'm going
home." He leaves, and a lightbulb goes on in Kyle and
Stan's heads. At the screening, Kenny and Cartman are
equally pissed off for various reasons, ranging from the fact
that both are identified with the dead character (Kenny by
name, Cartman by appearance) to the fact that Kenny was
portrayed as fat, Cartman as poor, etc..
2.	Cartman gets run over by a bus. Kenny mumbles "Oh my God,
they killed Cartman," expecting Kyle or Stan to chime in with
"you bastards!" Instead, one of them says "that's OK, we'll
just cast his character as Kenny." Kenny becomes indignant
at the fact that everyone else had assumed his character
	was supposed to die.
3.	As in SOX2K, they draft a story board and send it to foreign
animators. The animators fudge up the script in every
conceivable way. The fact that two characters' names got
mixed up gets buried somewhere near the middle, so it's not
	too obvious a set up.
4.	They run the short as-is, with all characters completely
oblivious to the fact that Kenny and Cartman's characters look
like the other's. Mrs. McCormick, Ms. Cartman or both
compliment Kyle and Stan on what a good job they did
	portraying their sons.

In article ,

Stan: Dude! We gotta do ANOTHER damn cartoon to save Christmas again!
Kyle: Ah, screw it. Let's just let Timmy do all the work.

[ Much later ]

Kyle: Aw, Timmy! Your drawing sucks! That ain't what we really look
               like.
Cartman: Hey! You made MY character do all the stuff that Kenny was
               supposed to be doing!
       Timmy: TIMMY!!

That's not a bad idea, but I don't see it happening. Unlike Sting, Matt & Trey don't seem to plagiarize themselves. Re-hash just seems to be against their religion. Which isn't to say we might not see it alluded to.

Agreed. The episode was meant to be a spoof of the Rankin/Bass special "The Night Before Christmas", making it the second time in a row that Trey and Matt spoof Rankin/Bass when it comes to Xmas episodes (Last year's had a Santa Claus is Coming to Town crack) and new eps (The Year Without a Santa Claus crack at the beginning of last week). This goes to show you that Trey and Matt can come up with some clever film and TV references that a few people won't get.

BTW, who else thought that the last act would have Cornwallace, the nugget with the glasses, admitting to breaking the projector and then helping in the fixing of it (right on the fixing, wrong on Cornwallace breaking it)?

Was it Butters or Clyde who used the M word on Mr. Macky in last week's ep? If it was butters, it that and the statement above would make a lot of sense. Maybe he got too close to Ms. Choksondik and couldn't resist the temptation?

RMHspauldingaealt.tv.southpark

Yuppers, it was Butters allrighty! He M-worded Mr. Macky in last week's ep, however they didn't show who M-worded Mrs. Choksondik :( Hopefully that's a key for an upcoming sequal on Butters' perverse past :)

Well, we've all seen Cartman's brown hair and those of us who saw the movie know that Kenny has blondish-brown hair. Thanks to last nights episode is obvious now that Stan's hair is black. We still dont know what color Kyle's hair is. Being Jewish, I think it's safe to say that his dark is dark also.

That was an excellent tribute to the fans! I dodn't know MAtt&Trey *sniff* cared so much!

It really was a good gift...but it would've been better if they showed the original shorts!
