And we're divided

Well, after just one short half hour, the Newsgroup has split in two. The ones who say "I'll never watch it again!" That group is split in to two more groups. The ones who will eventually watch it again, and the ones who commit suicide for lack of comedy. Then there is also the group I'm in, the group that can realize it was just a joke. For the most part, SP is good. This one little joke is going to drive me insane, and not watch South Park.

This person said it all. There's only a couple shows left on TV that I watch regularly. I actually *liked* this special episode. If you watched carefully, when they were joking about American TV being stupid, they were watching the SP episode that was really supposed to be on! Get it? That's right, South Park creators make fun of everything, _including_ themselves. Also, if you listen closely, T&P are laughing right when Cartman's dad was supposed to be announced. Then you hear Cartman saying: "He's my dad?", but we never really hear who it is. That was pretty neat how they did that.

Lighten up people, this is what makes SP so cool, doing weird unsuspecting things like this. This is probably why Simpsons creators never showed a full half-hour of Itchy and Scratchy (something I wouldn't mind seeing). They probably didn't want to listen to a bunch of whining people afterwards saying how they didn't show a "Simpsons" episode. Guess what, this WAS a South Park episode! And a pretty cool one if you'd just pay attention to it.

The were also making fun of the fact that Canadians know quiet a bit about the US and it's culture while Americans are relatively ignorant of Canada and it's culture. Maple leafs everywhere, the Canada Airport (I loved that part), singing O Canada twice, Canadian Football (quick, name another team other than the Roughriders, see? and a Canadian do-gooder doing his best to take T&P off the air (not unlike the removal of Royal Canadian Air Farce from the CBC and recent opposition to Howard Stern entering Canadian markets.)

Including Celine Dion (apparantly Ann Murray's replacement) was also a nice stab at American's view of their neighbors to the north. The only thing missing was doing the whole episode with french subtitles.

I suspect South Park fans closer to the Candian border found more to laugh at in this episodes than the rest of the country.

Ha! You just named two: the Sask. Roughriders and the Ottawa Rough Riders.

But David Letterman knows who the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are. OK, well, he called them the Hamilton Winnebagos, but the spirit was there.

I think most of us realize it was a joke it was just that it wasn't a very funny one. T&P cease to be humorous after about a 5 second segment and then just drift off into lameness.
