Uh, I'm in college now and beleive me, if you could rate the maturity level there, it would be in the negative numbers, and we are all supposed to be "adults" there aren't we?. And I've noticed that most young people are way more "mature" than your average adult so don't give me that "under 16" crap, it's just your opinion don't pass it off as fact.
JS wrote in message ...
Excuse me, but did you not read the post in question that I responded to. Now its my 'under 16' crap, eh. Well, lets put this to rest.
What is maturity?
You may be surprised, but maturity is not related to intellect. Maturity is the amount of control one has over the emotions. Plain and simple. Did I, anywhere, state that everyone over 16 is mature?
No. You read that into the post, when it said no such thing. The fact remains, that young people don't know squat, no matter how well behaved or educated they are. No matter how smart they appear, or the manor in which they pass their views to others. Experience of life, is the defining factor. And, sad as you may find it, age counts.
My opinion, since you brought it up, is that no person under 25 is an adult. Now that, is my opinion. It is indeed a fact, that maturity can only be found with age. Some, of course, never achieve what could be called maturity, but many do. Age matters folks, no matter what I nor you want. Don't listen to me though, I'm older then you...
I did think that this was obvious to all the 'adults' out there. My mistake.

Listen, first of all, sorry that my reply appeared under YOUR post, it was intended as a direct reply to FMCaroll not yours, I guess I clicked on your post by mistake when I decided to reply to her, my bad.
To set the record straight though, I do agree that increased maturity comes with age, that I do not dispute, but we have to remember what we are talking about here. We are talking about SP, a show that albeit rated TV-MA, I feel it does not require the average viewer to necessarily be 17 or above. What I'm trying to say here is that different situations require different levels of maturity. Age does count, ok, but most 12 and over kids have enough sence to take the show for what it is, a show.
Oh, and I'm 21, and feel quite adult if you ask me, once you are 18 the government deems you and adult, it can try you as an adult in court, and execute you if need be as an adult. So sorry, but at 25 you have allready lived 7 years AS an adult. Now granted most 18 year olds, and even 21 year olds don't act MUCH like 'adults', but that they are none the less.
Anywayz, this is getting way to long and its way too late, so sorry again for posting incorrectly under your message, and know that I respect your opinion on this, mine is just different.

I disagree with this definition. Maturity to me is the wisdom to keep other people from intruding on your personal space when it makes you uncomfortable and to not force your personal beliefs on people who don't ask to hear it. By that definition, there are very few true mature people in the world.
Some young people have gone through a lot of life that many adults will never go through. Age is just the passing of time. What a person does and learns during that time has more to do with it.
This is indeed, as with your previous opinion, which I do not subscribe to, an opinion. Not a fact. Maturity and age are often confused.
I'm listening, I'm just disagreeing.
This I agree with.

Actually you don't have to have parents permission. If you have WebTV like I do for example, all you have to do to get into the ng is to find it and click the name and your in. It's that simple.

I'm 21 now, by the time I was 12 I had seen more horror movies than any person had seen in a life time. I couldn't get enough, I went to R rated films by myself.. I could talk about the movies maturely, but began to appreciate better films as I grew.. that aside, WHAT THE HELL does this have to do with South Park? AGE? I've seen 40 year olds who are not yet mature..
and as for the originator and his Catman gets his.. umm 1. its called a spell check, look into it.. and to wrap it up 2. (please let this thead die "He's a disturbed little boy", don't give him any more attention.

Since Jedi & friends don't seem to be able follow a thread or quote accurately I'm reposting Michelles post & my question that was never answered.
Haha, Jedi & Friends, that's cute, think I'll use that from now on hmmmm.
Anyway, for your information I understood your post perfectly. It is you the one who missed the point of my reply. I stated that there is nothing wrong or alarming about teens under 16 posting about and/or watching SP, and that saying kids 16 and under are not "mature" enough for this is incorrect. A topic that has been talked about on this group to death. It wasn't that I missed your meaning, I got it completely and I disagree with your way of thinking as prooven by your question.

Good, maybe this can finally end. We are all in agreement that [email] (Michelle Malkin) in trying to censor someone because there are children lurking here was out of order. This is Usenet, This is an adult (over 18) NG so there should not be any censoring so long as it's on topic, which I believe the original post was, vulgar as it may have been. Anyone concerned for the kiddies should butt out as they don't belong here. Thank you and good night.

Well, I've been gone for a couple days and return to find that my complaint about that dusgusting post has gotten me censored without anyone asking me about this at all. Fine. I stand by what I said. If you don't like it, tough. I will not butt out, and I will continue to voice my opinion. Nowhere in my post did I say that the writer was to be censored or prevented from writing to this newsgroup. I spoke to him alone. For you to deliberately misunderstand my intent and censor me for it is your problem. YOU owe ME an apology. I don't expect it, though. All I expect is foul language and childish behavior.

Because TV ratings are at the discretion of the parents, which should be the case, at all times. Nothing should be hidden away from the child's view. They should be allowed to 'see it all'. Because then, and only then, will they have a chance to understand that they do NOT 'know it all'. Or, an even better way to put this, because they may then understand that there is no chance, ever, of 'knowing it all'.
Hiding reality from the child's mind, only creates ignorant children. Children who may never truly mature, after they become 'adults'.
To answer your question, unrealistically, 'children' are in this NG because they have parents which let them. But we already know this is not the case.

No. What has been stated, is that I don't EVER want to hear complaints from parents about the content that their kids are exposed to. I.e. don't go running to mommy and daddy when its no longer fun to be 'an adult'. Are these 'kids' really mature enough to handle the responsibilty of their own choices and actions?
They had best be, because they are here. Agreed this NG and SP are light material considering the 'real world'. But lets not forget. Adults are out to screw each other, and it doesn't matter how old you are, you are going to get screwed. You don't have to agree about this, but its a reality.
Are you kids ready to be screwed?
Can you handle it emotionaly, to go on living life, to put events behind you, and carry on regardless?
And when it comes down to the 'worst', can you handle it all by yourself, with no help, no favors, nobody to step in and deal with it for you?
And, in reply to those who think they have seen all the rough life early...are you mature enough to realize, that this is the way it shall be, throughout the entirety of your life?
That it all won't just end one day, and each day will be the same old shit, over and over again. And that being 'mature', you will have to put up with this quacha, and live in the face of it. If this is over your head, there is no shame. There is a chance that I have 'been there, done that', and lived through it. There is no shame in being ignorant, only shame in not trying to overcome ignorance. Ignorance is just the state of being unaware, and you don't have to be stupid, to be ignorant.
Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to defend the idea that people under 18 should not be online. I am just stating, that online, it is each to their own...and if, by chance, your parents do not want you to be envolved with certain elements, then you should not. Because I for one, do not care to listen to the complaints of your parents, and I will not accept any legislation that is passed restricting me, just to 'protect' these children. Laws be damned, I'm going to do, what I am going to do, and if you don't want your children to have any part of it, then its your job to keep them the hell away, not mine.
Enough for now...I'm sure ignorance will rear its ugly head yet again. And the job of cutting off those thousands of heads, shall never cease...

Man, I gotta respond to this one. First of all, what does this have to do WITH ANYTHING being discussed here? I just love (not really) people's ability to over-generalize a topic and blow it completely out of proportion. We are talking about South Park, let me say it again maybe you missed it, SOUTH PARK!. I am sorry to hear life has dealt you with shitty moments, but WHO HASN'T HAD THEM! Kids have them, teens have them, adults have them, and we ALL learn to deal with them in one way or another.
This has nothing to do with how crapy the world can be, so, do you even know how this whole thread started or what it is about? It was started NOT by a kid whining because he/she was screwed or insulted by a post and went crying to momma, No, it started when a woman asked why people under 16 where allowed to post in this newsgroup and watch SP. From what you stated in your post, it is HER you should be giving this lecture to, not me, nor anyone else. So why did you feel it necessary to post your little speech as a reply to my post? Nothing you said had anything to do with my the coments in my post. Let me give you some advice, next time you feel compelled to reply to a message belonging to a thread, READ THE ENTIRE THREAD FIRST, it might help you understand how the discussion was started and why people are saying what they are.

Mmmkay. Now I have a few things to say in response to the below text. First of all, you're totally missing the point here. This is not about how the world has screwed you. It's about South Park. And personally, I don't think that you should go around making these long speeches about how life sucks. It has nothing to do with what we are talking about. And also talking about the thing with parental permission: my mom trusts me totally online even though there are a bunch of sickos about there, because she trusts my maturity. A few weeks ago I had a run-in with a porn-freak. He kept IMing me with curse words and profanity. I simply shut the computer off. Mature enough for you? I think so. Not to mention that kids watching South Park and reading this newsgroup is not directly related to permission to do things online, and even if it is, it's not what we're talking about. It's what *you're* talking about. Stay on-topic, and never underestimate a preteen. After all, pretty soon, we'll be 13, and then we'll be 14, and then we'll turn into adults before you know it. Sure you'll always be older than us, but we're not gonna wait until we're 21 to get respect. Just because we've seen less doesn't mean we're not as intelligent. Now I hope that made some sense, and I hope that it doesn't disprove my maturity in any way. Good afternoon, good evening, and good *night*!
