although, to be fair, the scooby doo bit in the advert did look like it had the potential to be funny. as long as they don't overdo the korn angle.

BTW, I'm kinda leary for this ep. I mean, I've been listening to Korn for a couple years, before they went "mainstream". Isn't it a sign you've sold out when you agree to voice some cartoon characters for cash, ala Smashing Pumpkins (The Simpsons).??

After all... how many people in this newsgroup were REALLY familiar with Primus before they started watching SP? Matt and Trey's musical tastes are obviously leaning towards alternative/hardcore groups that not a lot of people are familiar with.

Dude, was I bashing at all?? I happen to like Korn. I just was pointing out to Willie what their last "popular" song was. He wanted to know who they were. I happen to think that they have better songs than that one, that's all.

i just honestly can't stand them. i tried. i gave them a shot. i tagged along to a korn concert a couple of years back and i just...can't take it. as for primus...oy. never cared for them either and i was well, well, well aware of them long before south park. i can understand where you're coming from, wondering if people have given it any thought before making comments...but, speaking as someone with an educated opinion of the two bands...not everyone is a bandwaggoneer (bandwaggoner?).
at the same time, i'm sure that there are many bands i love that others hate and that's cool...as long as there's some thought put into it.
as for the whole "sellout" thing:
how come when referring to the pumpkins it's selling out, but when referring to sonic youth it isn't? sorry, but i don't think either of those bands or anyone else on that episode compromised their integrity...i mean, it's the simpsons for crying out loud. if you want to call billy a sell out do it for something like appearing on regis and kathie lee or for just, generally, being billy corgan these days...but, not the simpsons.
i lean towards the latter. either they're fans of the show or they think that people will think they're cool if they're on the show. sure, the second of those could be slightly considered selling out...but, i doubt it has anything to do with the money.
Sorry, jeez..I was citing an example. If you really want me too, I can go through and list all the bands that have been called "sell outs" and the reasons for them..I was just using that as an example. Just because people say they sell out, doesn't mean they don't like the music. I LOVE the Pumpkins music...have since high school, but come on now...

no, no, no, no. it's not just you. everyone does it. i've just always been curious how that "damaged" the pumpkins, but sonic youth came out relatively unscathed.

I dunno. I've only downloaded one song from them. But I've seen the CD covers, and they seem to have this in common with Parker and Stone: nostalgia. KoRn often has children on its covers, be it a girl on a swing looking at a mysterious man (and KoRn spelled out in shadow behind her) or a kid leading the others to a rock jutting out over a cliff (a parody of Shel Silverstein's "Where The Sidewalk Ends"), or even a boy dressing himself for a church service (and a man standing behind him). I suppose they share the same view of childhood: it's normal when you go through it, but pretty fucked up once you look back at it.
