South Park Rating Too Much?

I watch South Park on Global (Toronto station), not Comedy Central and before every episode of SP, they have a disclaimer that says people under the age of 18 may find the show offensive and that viewer discretion is advised and blahblahblah.

What the fuck? First of all, shows and movies that have 18 ratings always has nudity, sex, extreme violence(ok there is a little in SP but nothing to get pissed about), as well as the F word. I sure as hell don't see any nudity, sex, or the F word in South Park and the violence, if you can consider that the show has it sometimes, is pretty tame.

I really think that the people who have picked the rating for this show have went a little too far and overexagerated (don't know if I spelled that right).

What do you people think?

Well yes they do! When 'Ellen' came out of the closet on nation wide TV, Birmingham was the only station in the country who didn't show it because of the reaction of the Southern Baptist!

As brilliantly comeuppant as your remark is, dumbass, the original poster is referring to South Park as shown on Toronto's Global TV, which does, in fact, have an additional, serious disclaimer recommending parental advisory and so on.

In the US, it's TV-MA meaning Mature Audiences. That can be construed however you want...I guess it's about the same as PG.

Here in the US, we have a new excuse to think we are doing better things For The Children (tm), in the form of an overly elaborate ratings system. South Park consistently receives the 'harshest' rating (TV - MA which stands for :::guffaw::: Mature Audiences).

But as with all attempts at childproofing, it's backfired. Now, any kid will know at a glance at the beginning of a show whether or not the show has "Cool" content.

"The following show is rated TV-MA. It contains boobs and fire."

On Comedy Central the last line of the disclaimer says, "...and due to its content, it should not be viewed by anyone." This stuff is only so they don't get in troubld when a little kid throws his friend in the microwave or drops a cow on their grandpa.

I don't think any kid who isn't retarded would drop a cow on their grandpa. And just how many kids in Colorado have cows?
