I completely agree with SP's opinion of Guitar Hero. Anyone who would rather waste their time with that instead of putting in the work necessary to play a real instrument probably prefers sex with blow up dolls to the real thing.

I didn't know until I'd read your post that "Guitar Hero" was a real game! I thought it was a fictional game made up for the show.
Maybe being out of touch with current video games is what kept me from fully appreciating the episode, but I found it weak and unfunny compared to South Park's usual standard. It seemed especially weak in comparison to the five consecutive great episodes that aired before it (Cartman faking Tourettes, Giant Turd, and all three parts of the Imaginationland Trilogy).
But South Park at its best is not "broad" humor (something everyone gets without background information). For people who are familiar with the source material for this episode (Guitar Hero and various rock star movies), it was hilarious. Just like the recent trilogy of episodes, recognizing characters from childhood cartoons and stories was half the fun. Sometimes the best joke is the one only one person in the audience gets.

You might be right, although video game obsessions is an area South Park had satirized several times before (The Towlie episode, The Nintendo Oui episode, and the World of Warcraft episode), and to me this episode seemed like something of a rehash. It's possible I would have enjoyed it much more if I was familiar with (or at least aware of) the Guitar Hero video game.
Still, by any standards, the first five episodes of this season were all laugh riots. It's amazing that this series still maintains such a high level of quality in its eleventh season.

I'd heard of the game a while ago because Deep Purple was featured in it.
I guess I added it to the other five and found it funny because I'm a guitarist of some note (although we're not exactly sure which note that is). When Randy plugged in and demonstrated that he could actually play a real guitar, the boys thought it was gay. I enjoyed the show in part because it highlighted how ridiculous it was that fake guitarists take precedence over a real guitarist. When extreme players of the game (1000000 points) were exposed as fags, it was sort-of comforting.
I think the last 3 half-seasons have been some of the best episodes. South Park is on the up and up, and I'll keep watching for the next few seasons too!

I think everyone is missing the actual brilliance of the episode which was the Heroin Hero/Rehab Hero gag. I think "You know you never catch the dragon" might be one of the funniest jokes in South Park ever.
That and people clapping along to Thad's button mashing at the outdoor cafe. Brilliant!

That was definitely a great Kenny death and it was very nice how they worked it in. It was also nice to see them work in the bit at the end with Stan and Wendy for old time's sake. In all, I thought it was a fun episode and it was nice to see them get back to their roots a little with a story that was just about the boys trying to make some sense out of a crazy world without a deep message behind it.
As far as the international acclaim goes, send me an e-mail and I'll tell you all about it.
