....What Is?....

I watched "Damien" again tonight as I edited out the commercials. This time around, it was a heck of a lot funnier! The enormity of the upcoming Armageddon, thrown against the backdrop of the goofy people of South Park, really stood out this time. Cartman also got funnier; Cartman kicks Kyle's ass at the end and really drives home some cynical points about modern society. How different is Cartman from the all-too-typical insecure boss that fires you for querying his decisions? One of those unspoken understandings we have... the kind that South Park likes to pull out of the closet for our ridicule.

I now think "Damien" is as strong as every other South Park episode. It just didn't seem so the first time.

Did anyone else experience a change like this?

(Mr. Hat) "Well, Kyle... NO! NO, NO! NO! I'm Mr. Hat, and you're a little turd! You go to Hell! You go to Hell and you die!" (Kyle) "Fuck Mr. Hat!" (Mr. Hat) "No, Kyle... fuck you!" -unaired pilot

Yeah, I felt it was better the second time around because you have all this built up stuff in your head about how the new one will be, since it was like 2 months since the last new one you can't enjoy it. The second time around though, it really wasn't bad. [email] Owner of South Park: @$%#?!!: http://members.aol.com/Yoda591/SouthPark.html (Everything!) Like Star Wars? So far I've watched in 3 times & my first impression has been confirmed that its the poorest of the lot. To me, its as tho they phoned it in.

I thought it was funny the first time. The things I like about south park the most are not the immediate jokes, like "My mom says I gotta lick this carpet if I want to be a lesbian", but the satire and the subtle digs at religion, ignorance, etc. I do laugh harder at the pussy jokes, but I have to say that I appreciate the more subtle (although not really *that* subtle) aspects a good bit more. It South Park had no commentary, it would just be Beavis and Butthead.

I liked Damien the first time around. I liked it better than Tom's Rhinoplasty, but I have probably seen Damien a time or three more. The sheer stupidity of the South Parkians was great. When they heard of the coming apocalypse, what is the first thing they did? Went to the bookie, of course, to place bets on the fight. Even the carpet licking line can't beat Cartman telling Pip what happened to his invitation.

I think Damien had a lot of good parts. Basically everything that wasn't directly related to the fight was pretty cool. Like the birthday party, and the reign of terror :)

The part with the counselor is great.

Counselor: Now, why do you think the other children don't like you? Damien: B-because I'm the son of Satan? Counselor: Okay, maybe. Why else? Damien: Because I burn them and kill them?

LOL. Yeah, what about,

"Pip's invitation, Pip's invitation.... Oh! I remember!! I shoved it up my ass!! Yes, that's right! I rolled it out, put it in an envelope, sealed it and then {bloop!} shoved it right up my ass forever ruining any chances you have of coming to my birthday party! Sorry, Pip ol' chap!" Classic. It's all in the way he says invitation and {bloop!} I was ROTF.

I laughed my ass off when I saw that, but in one of my art classes the table right next to mine does nothing but do that monologue for the whole class. It's a great bit, but I'm kinda burned out on it.

Probably my favorite part are the hellish voices in the background whenever Damien is doing something. I swear I heard them say cheesy poofs.
