Can you say repetitive?

Fox now has the Simpsons on 3 times a day. I don't know if this is national or just in my local area (Philadelphia).

    For some reason they seem to keep showing the same 20 episodes over and
over.
    For example, last night at 11 they had on the Halloween episode where
Marge ran over Flanders.
This same episode was on last week at 6:30 or 7  and the week before in the
other time slot.

Is there anyway to get ahold of someone at Fox and explain to them that there are over 300 episodes and convince them to give us a little variety?

I'll field this one... syndication schedules are entirely local now - I'm glad WTXF in Philadelphia put one on at 11, so now when I get home for the summer I'll have more chances to watch...but it was their decicision to play 3 a day (I haven't been following the entire schedule, so I don't know what they did with Frasier) - there's also a bit of confusion here, so I should mention that it's mostly a coincidence that the local Fox affiliate plays Simpsons reruns - here in Cleveland, the local UPN station does that (as well as Seinfeld, except on weekends, when CBS does - I think both stations are in the same building actually, since they're very closely tied). Anyway, this tendency to play only new episodes is pretty annoying, but I believe it's just the stations trying to get back to normal - they buy a certain number of airings per episode, and as a result, if they have already aired early episodes a number of times and then buy seasons 12 and 13, they have many more of those to finish before it occurs to them to renew the earlier ones. It's kind of a dumb system, but that's how it goes. (I think they should just pay for the total number of airings - about 750 per year in Philadelphia's case - and then go for a more even distribution; the scheduling could hardly get any worse!)

In the larger markets, yes. But there are plenty of smaller markets where OFF plays on stations not owned by News Corp. Even in the larger markets, when the rerun rights were sold, the UPN affiliates mentioned above were owned by Chris-Craft and Fox had no control over them.

They certainly have control now - Fox Television Stations, Inc. (which owns the staions) and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. (which owns the show) all go back eventually to News Corp. They don't show anything more than four or five years old because they don't want us to remember how good the show was in its prime, so we keep coming out on Sunday for what's "new".

Yep, I'm in the Philly Fox market as well.... was very excited when I saw them adding the 11pm show... that's a great time for Simpsons... But, I agree... seems like the same episodes over and over... THE SIMPSONS ARE GOING TO AFRICA!!!

I know how you feel. Fox 59 in Indianapolis showed TreeHouse of Horror XI on Wednesday. They showed it exactly 2 weeks before then. I'm sick of season 12. I hate Fox. I want seasons 3-9 and 13.

The same thing happened here in Houston for months. It was maddening, and all the episodes were late-season ones. But a few weeks ago, they finally started showing old episodes again. (Today's 6:30 episode was "Bart Gets Hit by a Car." Lionel Hutz ... sniff ...)

As I have tried to post on jumptheshark.com, I think they are doing this deliberately, to condition us to think that seasons 9 (or so)-12 are as good as it gets (and forget just how GOOD the writing used to be) so what comes out new doesn't disappoint us as much. I count FOUR times Mr. X has come on in 2003. If Philadelphia wants to bring back 11:00, fine, but start from the BEGINNING!

That said, it was nice to catch Tales from the Public Domain tonight. I hadn't seen it in a while. (Homer as Odysseus, passing through the River "Styx" was PRICELESS, even if it was done without the group's cooperation.)
