This is the second time now they've played music to hammer in a reference. First was The Twilight Zone, now they do it with Casablanca.
I didn't mind it the first time, but it grated on me this time.
Who's idea was this business?

This is getting on my nerves...still, the two new episodes that aired tonight were the best since "Little Girl in the Big Ten" IMO. Hopefully they'll keep this up.

You have a short memory. The Simpsons has been doing that sort of thing for years.
In a relatively early episode (I think season 3 or 4), Bart stole Homer's money jar, emulating Indiana Jones. The "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme played prominently through the whole scene.
In the 2nd-season episode "Itchy and Scratchy and Marge", Maggie hits Homer with a mallet, to the music of the shower scene from "Psycho."
Oh, that's hardly the same thing. In each of your two references, during the scene in each respective movie, that was the exact music playing. The Simpsons are spoofing the exact scenes right down to the music.
The music playing in the spoofs of Casablanca and in that particular episode of the Twilight Zone was thrown there to make sure that everyone knew the reference. There's a big difference...
Such minutiae! The lesson is, never try.
