Simpsons died when Phil Hartman died

I don't mean to put down the rest of the spectacular voice cast, but I believe that the Simpsons lost a very important ingredient when Phil Hartman was killed. Alot of people have said they'll stop buying the DVD sets after Season 9. Phil Hartman's last episode was Season 10 Episode 3 #5F22 Bart the Mother. I haven't disliked the past seasons as much as others, but just think of how much funnier they'd all be if Phil Hartman was still around. I still watch every episode and still think it's the best show on TV period. We miss you Phil.

Other than the "you may remember me from.." line he didn't do much on the show. Was he funny? Of course. But the reason why the Simpsons have gone down in quality has very little to do with Phil Hartman. I mean at best the guy was good for two or three jokes an episode.

What about Lionel Hutz? He was one of the funniest characters on the show.

Yeah, but how often was he actually /in/ the show? The point is that Phil Hartman was hardly a large part of the show, overall.

Phil Hartman was a celebrity who would guest-star on The Simpsons sometimes. Like Joe Matenga voicing Fat Tony, or Jan Hooks voicing Manjula.

They were still important characters to the show though.

It's fairly stupid to think that Hartman's departure actually caused the quality of the show to decrease, even though his characters were obviously sorely missed, but it's strange how his last appearance almost exactly coincided with when the show started to become unacceptably poor (his last episode was Bart The Mother at the very end of the S9 production run)

I'll take it a step farther and say it's about time to bring in Billy West to the cast.

You KNOW he's doing Zap Brannagin on Futurama which was originally meant for Phil... So if he can fill those shoes, why not bring him in as Troy McClure? Or countless other characters....

I think he's the best voice actor since Mel Blanc.
