Cisco router in "Half-Decent Proposal"?

When Marge's email is on its way to Ziff, we see it pass through a Cisco router.

I have spent quite some time trying to figure out if that was funny or clever or a reference to something else.

Can anybody shed light on this important subject?

I think they were trying to show that the only delay in the whole email was the router..which looked like it was falling apart (with the flies and dents n' stuff). It was a cryptic sequence though..could be good or bad for Cisco, since any publicity is good publicity.

Any analysis of next day stock performance of companies mentioned in The Simpsons? Do the writers wield power that they only barely know about? A darker conspiracy? You be the judge..
