Bakersfield Comic Book Convention

There will be 3 Simpsons/Simpsons-related artists there:

*SCOTT SHAW! (World famous Animator/Illustrator, and writer and Artist for the Simpsons Comics). *PHIL ORTIZ (Simpson comics Artist, Animator and Storyboard Artist). *TONE RODRIGUEZ (Futurama Artist, and Comic Book Artist)

BE DRAWN AS A SIMPSON! We will be holding a Raffle (with proceeds going to a local Food Bank.. being so close to Thanksgiving) $1 a ticket, and we draw 3 names at 2:00 o'clock, and eack of our winners will have their portrait drawn as a SIMPSON by one of our 3 Simpson Artists. COOL!

I only bring this up because I think "Bakersfield" is the Gerry Rafferty song that Lisa performed in the pony episode.

If the convention hall is on Baker Street in Bakersfield, then <"Twilight Zone" music plays in the background> that would be really freaky, man!

Actually the title is "Baker Street". I prefer the Foo Fighters cover but I still like the original. Besides, the post is relevant to people in So Cal who would want to go to the convention.

Bakersfield appears in the classic Steinbeck novel "Grapes of Wrath", but it's been so long since I last read it that I can't remember the context.

It may have been Bakersfield that put the roadblock out in the desert to keep people out of California if they didn't have the Do-Re-Mi.

Of course, The Simpsons did have an episode that riffs on the book, "The Crepes of Wrath", but wasn't that the one where Bart ends up practically slave laboring in France?

Apparently the one where Homer wins a motorcycle and comes up against a motorcycle gang, the gang was from Bakersfield.

I suspect some further hits can be had indirectly. Ie, The Simpsons make a reference to something else like a movie, and the movie has some connection to Bakersfield. But I don't know. Rainier Wolfcastle was in "Running Man", for instance, and that has a riot in Bakersfield.
