People who bottom-post are clueless. Tell me, when you reply to an e-mail, is the curser blinking at the top or the bottom of the page? It's loads of fun to have to scroll down 7 miles of previosly read messages, just to get to someone posting "I agree".

So I start reading a post, i should definitely start at the bottom and read up.... why don't i start typing my posts backwards then?

Good points!

I'm sure people will say "why do you keep arguing blah, blah, blah...?" , and "It's not that important..." Right! That's why if one does top-post, or violates some other so-called nettiquette rule, the web police get bent outta shape. Everybody seems to have different settings that they are used to. Top posting seems as logical as any other way.

If it's believed that it's no big deal for men to lower the toilet, why is it such a big deal for women to lift the toilet seat.

I've never seen a man nag a woman about leaving the seat down. Nagging works i tell ya. And top posting sucks when you open a post expecting to find a quote and then the post at the bottom. I've seen newsgroups where you get shunned for top posting.

Laziness is not an excuse. The cursor is only placed at the beginning of the text in certain newsreaders under the misguided assumption that it will encourage people to remove unnecessary quotes. Quoted text is placed before new text to preserve the chrology of the thread in a manner consistent with the direction in which most languages are written. News servers occasionally miss messages or receive them after several replies. Bottom posting makes comprehending the thread much easier in those cases.

Which is why unnecessary text is expected to be removed, or snipped, as usenet regulars have come to say. Decent newsreaders often have a toolbar button to advance past quoted text

Yeah, I've noticed that too.

this place used to be great, (it's still pretty good actually) but considering the amount of posts, there were virtually zero flame-wars or trolls,... It's not bad at all yet, but there are the odd non-productive threads.
