I'm almost positive that there was a speed racer reference, but I can't remember when. I think it was in the old days when I was smoking up my short term memory. Hell, it might have even been speed buggy for all I know. Sorry I can't help you.

Speed Racer is a 1960's cartoon that was one of the first anime titles to reach the United States. The show is about a young race car driver who competes in various races while also dealing with bad guys who range from generic gangsters to rival racers with evil plans in mind (i.e. one episode, Speed raced against a very long truck that is actually made out of stolen gold). Among some of the other characters in the show are Trixie, Speed's girlfriend; Sprittle, Speed's younger brother; Chim-Chim, Sprittle's pet monkey (and partner in crime); and Racer X, a masked racer who is really Speed's older brother.

I caught part of a funny one they had on that Speed channel the other night...revolutionaries from the land "Bang-a-Bonga" skyjack a plane carrying speed and his scientist friend, so the scientist can aid them in growing an army of giant human beings, just like the giant apes and spiders they've released in the jungle. The way the Giant Gorillas move by itself is just..priceless. They look almost like comic gangsters!

Actually, SPRITLE (Yahoo search gives 300 sites with the "i" spelling, and only 8 with the "y"; even the site above has the "i" spelling in a review below the credits!). Official Site SpeedRacer.com also uses the "i" spelling.
Don't rely on imdb's accuracy; they also messed up Chim chim (2 words, not one).

No... but perhaps the Simpson's can pull a "Brady Bunch" (i.e.., when they adopted Cousin Oliver) and Homer and Marge can adopt Spridel and Chim Chim as wacky additions to the family. Or maybe S and CC would be foreign exchange students... with Maggie being sent over to Japan to live with a new family in a wacky Fox spin-off series, "Osaka Maggie-chan"
