Can anyone shed light on the odd grammar or semantics (or etymology?)
Next thing ya know, she'll be saying "w00t": previously never voiced in my experience, and just as cryptic.

"My bad" became a popular basketball expresion in the late 1980's. When players turned the ball over or missed an easy shot, they'd tell their teammates, "My bad." I remember that Larry Brown, the coach of the Spurs back in 1987-90, hated the phrase and had a pretty funny TV-interview rant about all his players saying "My bad...my bad...my bad" all the time.
Yeah, we mostly used it in a sports context. Makes sense that the above mentioned is the origin.
