REVIEW: C - there's something wrong when a half-assed couch opening
is the best part of the show. This episode could have been
good in so many levels - even as a remake of "Poppa's Got a
Brand New Badge" or "Trash of the Titans" - but instead, it's
"Everybody hates Mayor Quimby, let's recall him, that Safety
Salamander guy is way ahead, Jane washes George's suit and
ruins it (oh wait, that was an episode of The Jetsons) Marge
washes Homer's suit and ruins it, and it ends with nobody
liking Quimby any better than before but since they can't
agree, or care about, anybody else, Quimby keeps his job, and
let's all go to the Everything's Back to Normal BBQ to
celebrate." It seems the only thing they left out was a jab
at the recent California special election by mentioning how
much the recall election cost the city. Why didn't Burns try
to buy the election? Why didn't Marge run? And what happened

GOOFS / FREEZE FRAME / WHATNOT On October 7, 2003, the state of California held a special election to determine whether or not to recall then-governor Gray Davis, who had been elected to a second four-year term less than a year before, and if so, which of 135 candidates would replace him as governor until the next election in 2006, including actor (and Kennedy-in-law) Arnold Schwarzenegger, standup comic Gallagher, political columnist and author Arianna Huffington, Michael Jackson (the radio show host, not the singer). and "entertainer" (and billboard model) Angelyne. (While Angelyne appeared without a second name, Gallagher was listed as Leo Gallagher.) The names of those who did not run was almost as surprising; neither Senator Dianne Feinstein nor former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Reardon (who ran against Davis in 2002) were on the ballot. (In fact, Reardon had announced that he would not run if Schwarzenegger did.) Those who were expecting a long night of counting were in for a surprise; less than a minute after the polls closed at 8:00 PM, news services announced their projections that Davis had been recalled and Schwarzenegger elected.

One of of the things Homer supports is flextime. While the details are different based on the company, in the U.S. Government, it allows employees at locations that use it to work less than five-day weeks. (An employee can work 10 hours a day, four days a week, or can work 9 hours a day four days a week and the fifth day each week would alternate between 8 hours and a day off.) Some locations extend this into "maxiflex", where a different number of hours can be worked each day, provided the employee works 80 hours in each specified two-week period and works designated "core hours" (for example, Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons).
