I am only 14 years old. I have been watching the show(with my dad) since I was basically born. We even watched them on the Tracy Ulmann show. Sure I don't remember it, but I still think its important to state in this topic. Now I know this argument has been going on for a long time. I haven't had a chance to state m opinion yet and now I want to after reading Chris's opinion. I think many of the adult fans degrade the teenagers opinion. Well, I'll have to agree to a certain extent. Sure, I am a teenager, but I find most of their opinions to be juvenile and well.....juvenile. As I said earlier I am a teenager. I think I am much more wise then many many teenagers. Now what does this have to do with ths simpsons? Many of the older fans here label ALL younger fans "the people who like the newer shows and only "South Park" style shows. I am a living example to show you its not true. I think seasons 2 and 3 specifically were the greatest entartainment ever in the history of telivision. Maybe Im a teenager who thinks like an adult, but I beg you not to label all teenagers as the ones who think the newer seasons are much better than the oldies. I notice many of the references, heres a couple examples- Dog of Death(A Clockwork Orange Ref, also one of my favorite films) Oh Brother, Can you Spare Two Dimes(2001 ref, another great reference and great movie) Homer the Vigilante(Dr. Strangelove-good movie-Can you tell I'm a Kubrick fan yet?) Dead Putting Society(Of course the obvious tile reference and the Full Mtal Jacket reference-an OK movie) I also find watching the Cape Feare episode much better after watching the movie Cape Fear. You see, all I'm asking is some respect to somebody who says they're 14 before you hear thier opinion. Even give their opinion some respect until it gets to the point where they say something "stinks", "sucks", or is "gay" every other sentence. Hey, I don't like teenagers either, but I know what it feels like to be stereotyped and I'm sure you do too.
A Message to the Older Fans by A Perfect Void
First of all, don�t take too serious what I said in my "Old fans, young fans" posting. It was just some oldschool rambling ;-)
I generalized the problem way too much but I was IMO not entirely wrong - you even call yourself an untypical teenager so I guess you don�t know many other people of your age who think about the show that way. I still think that the majority of young people aged 10 - 14 prefer the simple slapstick instead of depth. (I don�t mean the young people here in a.t.s.)
It�s always good to hear from young people who appreciate old episodes and subtlety and who notice such (frequent) references as to Clockwork Orange or 2001 or references to literature/art/science etc - proves me wrong but gives me hope :-)))
BTW, one of most active and respected regulars in the German Simpsons newsgroup is also just 15 years old but many of the older people are interested in his opinion because of his very good insight into various aspects of the show. As Sideshow Bob said "Treat the children as equals. They�re smarter than you think..."
Now tell that the producers and writers of the show who seem to think that the kids of today don�t deserve the better kind of episodes we had back in the early years. They are probably the people who see younger viewers as stereotypes who want to see nothing but simple fun, farts and boobs and overexplained jokes without a trace of subtlety.

Yeah, "A Clockwork Orange" is one of your favorite movies. But did you know that Patrick Magee, who played the old white haired writer in that movie, also played the part of the field surgeon in Stanley Baker's gripping movie "Zulu"? Or that the sergeant at the prison played almost exactly the same type of character in the movie "Battle of Britain"? I have seen all these movies over and over again and I recognize all these actors whenever I see them! You are just a kid! The bodyguard in the gym shorts in "A Clockwork Orange" was the stunt man who wore the Darth Vader suit in the "Star Wars" movies! Did you know that?
That's because you never saw an episode of "The Prisoner", "Wild, Wild, West", "The Avengers", "The Honeymooners", "I Love Lucy", "The Beverly Hillbillies", or "The Twilight Zone".

If you are a Kubrick fan, I hope you have seen "Spartacus" and "Paths of Glory". Who are George McReady and Ralph Meeker? They both had famous parts in Kubrick movies! And George McReady was also in "Tora, Tora, Tora"! And Ralph Meeker was also in "The Dirty Dozen"!
Us older folks have had the luxury of having spent years absorbing lots of popular culture. You youngsters have not. And don't try to cram it all in right now! I spent years in college and graduate school studying Engineering. When I finished and started working, I also started absorbing popular culture. I took up right where I left off in High School.
While you're at it, don't forget to watch "Catch-22"! There are lots of "Catch-22" references in "The Simpsons". :-)

Wait, I didnt say I knew more then you, but simply respect my opinion. Sure, you've had more experience in pop culture, but does that make your opinion 20 times better. Not all that much when it comes to the simpsons. Just to note about the Kubrick thing : I've seen A Clockwork Orange, 2001, Full Metal Jacket, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, Spartucus, and......thats all I can think of right now (the ones I havent seen Eyes Wide Shut, Barry Lyndon, ect. are because my video store doesn't carry them. Well, I'll probably get the Kubrick DVD set soon so I'll see them. Anyway, all I'm asking is for respect from people who are 45(like you) or 14 year olds like me. Sorry to correct you again(you're just a bit stuck up), but I HAVE seen many episodes of I Love Lucy, the Honeymooners, Beverly Hillbillies, and The Twighlight Zone. I still think season 2 and 3 beat out I Love Lucy and Seinfeld just a little. Sorry, but I think the beverly hillbillies are that good. Now, before you get pissed and spit out facts again realize I'm not insulting older fans, you know MUCH MUCH more then me, but other people who are 45 know MUCH MUCH less then you too. Gasp! Am I an "adult" or a "teenage" fan of the Simpsons? Born in 1980. Did a report in elementary school about the Tracy Ullman shors being developed into a series.. Carry the one... I am not sure how it all adds up.
