The "kissing Lincoln" could be a reference to the second-rarest U.S. penny, the "1955 double-die obverse"; a number of 1955 pennies were misstamped a second time, so the date appears twice. (The rarest penny is the 1943 copper penny - most pennies made in 1943 were made of steel as copper was needed for the war effort, but presumably the first pennies minted were from the copper left in the machines from 1942.)

If Mel is as good of a stage actor as he claimed, he would have had applause every night, so that couldn't be the reason he left the stage for Krusty's show.

This current season has been absolutely woeful. If only they could get some of the good writers back in there. This current group of writers go against the spirit of the show, or what made the show great IMO.

They didn't bring up Mr. Plow in the episode about the kids trapped at school, to bring up Mr. Plow, the joke was that Homer denied it or didn't rememember, even though he had the jacket on.

Homer being an astronaut is just another tiny thing in his life, dwarfed by whatever happened last week. For anyone else, being an astronaut may be the one thing that gives them identity, and going into space or standing on the moon was the highlight of their life. That Homer just sort of shrugs, or puts it into a conversation about something else (and the other person replies "sure you were") is the joke.
