Bart: Lisa, certain differences -- rivalries, if you will -- have come up between us. At first I thought we could talk it over like civilized people. But instead, I just ripped the head off Mr. Honeybunny. Lisa: Bart, that was your cherished childhood toy. Bart: Aah! Mr. Honeybunny! Homer: Quiet down, Bart! Lisa: Bart, just get outta here. Bart: Hey: it's a free country. You get out. Lisa: That doesn't make sense. Bart: I know you are, but what am I? Lisa: Get out, get out! Bart: OK, but on my way, I'm going to be doing this: (starts waving arms and walking towards her) If you get hit, it's your own fault. Lisa: OK, then I'm going to start kicking air like this. (kicks) And if any part of you should fill that air, it's your own fault. (they walk towards each other, and start fighting) Marge: Oh, I better go check that out. Now Homer, don't you eat this pie! Homer: OK... All right, pie, I'm just going to do this. (chomps air) And if you get eaten, it's your own fault! (walks towards pie, chomping air, and hits head) Ow! Oh, my -- aw, to hell with this. (grabs pie and eats it)

Actually, there's another scene in that same episode that qualifies as funniest Simpsons moment:

[in the future, Lisa is being sworn in] Chief Justice: I now pronounce you President of these United -- Reporter: Stop the inauguration! I just discovered our President Elect got an F in second grade gym class! [crows gasps; Lisa is handcuffed] Chief Justice: In that case I sentence you to a lifetime of horror on Monster Island. [to Lisa] Don't worry, it's just a name. [Lisa and others are chased by fire-breathing monsters] Lisa: He said it was just a name! Man: What he meant is that Monster Island is actually a PENINSULA.

Lisa Simpson rules. Save her from Monster Island...send George there instead!

Ya know, "Lisa On Ice" is one of my favs, two other Homer classics in that episode:

"You better win today boy, or I'll KILL YOU!!"

"I want to see you fighting for your fathers love. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"

Neither are classic when merely quoted, you just gotta see 'em!!!!

There was a moral to this story, but it has since escaped the authors mind. Dr. Evil

"One liners" on the Simpsons, IMO, has always been a misnomer. Most lines on the show aren't things that some stand-up comic could say and get a laugh. The best lines always involve the context of the scene. We laugh at something like "please do not offer my god a peanut", because we remember the context and we know who said it. It wouldn't be funny if Jerry Seinfeld got up and said the line, then said "Who are these people?" (It would be, to us, because we'd be hearing something familiar--way out of context)

In short... the best Simpsons humor is always contextual.

That's why IMHO Simpsons one liners exist, but have a completely different nature/definition.

My personal definition is of lines which you quote to answer people in day-to-day life.

They don't have to make sense, but if they do I suppose you'll get less strange looks. :)

One personal favourite is "I dunno, your fantasy..."

I'd elaborate, but I think I'll pass out now....

If they don't make sense out-of-context, they work better. They are inside jokes that all obsessive Simpsons fans understand. Even the lamest lines in-context like "Ah, au gratin potatoes... that's a quality side" are hilarious out-of-context, for some reason, because we know what's going on. Lines that aren't funny in an episode per se can become quite funny.

Those who think, find the world comic. Those who feel, find it tragic.

I agree too, but you shouldn't say this! It was written by Mike Scully, i'm surprised you didn't get flamed yet

I have to disagree. The funniest OFF moment had to be a SLH moment. Specifically, the "Clockwork Orange" reference in obedience school where they train him by showing him the movie like Alex. If I remember correctly, one of the images designed to scar him into obedience was a man with a rolled up newspaper LOL
