Tonight's outing was quite a step-up from last week, thoroughly impressive the whole way through. Between the well-observed and charming character interaction that found itself in the great scenes between Lisa, Marge and Homer (most notably the after-party exchange), among other characters, the stunning direction which lent itself to such engaging visuals as the camera's progressive pan into the house synced-up with the noise of the construction in the intro, the humorous use of background characters (including the classic one-timer Gravedigger Billy, and the reappearance of Dr. Nick after almost 2 seasons of absence) and the endearing characterization of Lisa, exploring her conflicting youthful fears and her value of logic and reason, there was little not to like. A few niggling flaws hold this back from perfection (while I liked the inverted structure of having the Stamp Museum come in the middle, parts there felt unnecessary), but overall, it was very well done. 9/10 (A-)
(Kent Brockman is seen at his desk delivering the news.) Kent: And now, breaking news, before it happens! Creepy cemetery scheduled to move next-door to Simpson family. (Scenes of construction workers lowering a tombstone to a grave and whacking it with a mallet and Homer chaining himself to the front of a plow with a sign on his chest with the word "cemetery" crossed Marge sits up with a pillow over her ears as Homer dances in his sleep.) Marge: Homer, do something about the noise! (Homer shoves a pillow in her mouth. Cut to Bart, who is chained to a drill, but the operator decides to use it anyways.) Bart [after drilling]: Again! Again! (Cut to Kent.) Kent: Local residents fight back, no ifs, ands or... butts! (A shirtless Homer is seen riding his lawnmower in cutoffs with a sign reading "Jiggling For Justice" on the front. As the motor jiggles, the cutoffs are engulfed by his buttocks, revealing his flabby cheeks and coinciding with a ride by a construction site, where four workers sit. Upon seeing his behing, they scream and fall off the beam, one by one. Cut back to Kent.) Kent: If we don't hear it first, it's news to us! The Simpsons, all new at 8/7c, one week from tonight on FOX!
