Come on, people, why are they still making these damned episodes?! The Simpsons haven't been good in years, and it's killing me to see so much CRAP be churned out after all these years. 1-6 were great, and there was some really good stuff even with 7-9, but ENOUGH! ENOUGH already, this is getting really stupid. To think Futurama and Family Guy aren't being made anymore, and yet we have Homer doing something stupid for the umpteenth time now. ENOUGH!

Youve missed one point. Fox still earn lots of cash out of the early years they keep showing them endlessly. The cost of making new shows is relatively low they have no reason to cancel the series even if ratings fall. For instance a show like 'Dallas' failed because seasons can't shown in mixed multi night format.

No. They stink to high heaven now.
But the older episodes ARE better than the currnet ones. Basically the show went south around the 8th season (though I would argue it started even earlier), and was really terrible during the 10th through 12th seasons. It improved since then to the point where it is now merely mediocre.
But this is the arc of all tv shows. They can only go on for so long before they start to decline in quality.

It's like watching the woman you love, grow older, and then become senile. Sure she's the same woman, that great woman from years ago, but now she can't even remember who she used to be. Pity that they keep rubbing it in everyone's face. Just die already. :(

I admit very best of the Simpsons was Season 9 and before (To me the first 4 seasons were flawless). But there are many episodes post 8 that I really like (The Poochie episode and Homer the Hippie comes immediately to mind right now). Those were hilarious and definitely on my fave list. To me the difference is that with the later seasons, there are more misses than hits. But I still look forward to Sunday nights every weekend because watching it still brightens my mood, and also because this routine has existed for me since I was 11 years old.

They weren't necessarily "My Days" but even just ten short years ago things were better all around. The economy was better, crime was down, The Twin Towers were still standing, and The Simpsons were at their peak.
What style would that be? I haven't noticed a change in the style of the show, just a decline in the writing.
I assume you don't mean Springfield. After 14 seasons they are not stuck in the same place; they are actually moving backwards. They are rehashing old plot ideas from older episodes.
That's a bit of hyperbole. Who's to say The Twilight Zone or The Dick Van Dyke Show isn't the greatest television show ever?

Absolutely. I don't get a good laugh out of any sitcoms on the air right now. Sometimes I chuckle, but no serious laughs. The majority of other comedy shows are written by hacks. Think about it, if they could write better humor, would they be writing for "Everybody Loves Raymond?"
Yeah, but there are other things besides tv. There are lots of funny books, movies, radio shows, magazines, etc.

Erm.....yes. Although a) i'd say season 3, and b) I wouldn't agree it has gone directly downhill since then, season 6 and 7 were a notable improvement over 5 for example, and the Jean era has been an improvement over Scully). But this isn't a productive discussion of how the show has gone downhill, so that's irrelevant. This is a nonsensical ("yet we have Homer doing something stupid for the umpteenth time now. ENOUGH!") and banal whine for the show to be cancelled, of the type that have been appearing since about season 4 and before, of that type that serve no other purpose other to to troll the group. Plus, making a liking for Family Guy obvious in a post like that just removes all of the poster's credibility.....
I don't watch the other 85-90% of the sitcoms on tv so I can't compare The Simpsons to them (except maybe South Park). I can only compare the current episodes of the show to the episodes of the past, or to other types of satire like "The Onion", the books of David Sedaris, Harry Shearer's "Le Show" on NPR, etc. It usually doesn't come out well in those comparisons.

When you compare new episodes to old episodes you're tricking yourself into thinking that the writers of today are trying to make the show like the writers of yesterday did. The writers of today ARE trying to make the shows seem like those of the writers of yesterday. They're using the same characters and plot devices and, for the most part, the same style of humor. They just aren't doing a very good job of it, mostly because the show has exhausted all its possibilities. And the characters may have "evolved" over time, by they aren't THAT different from their origins.
Not in my case. I was disappointed with the show years before I got a computer.
Don't get me wrong, I LOOOOVE the Simpsons. Somebody on here said "don't watch the show". I DON'T. It just makes me sick to see how the mighty have fallen. :(
