I'm just watching "Lisa likes Nelson"...

And I'm just reminded of one of the brilliant things.

Marge is telling Lisa how Homer 'used to be loud, and piggish" but she's 'worked on him' and now he's 'a whole different person'. Lisa: "mum?" Marge: "He's a *whole* *different* person, Lisa." Lisa: "oh, I.. know".

Lisa thinks she's just humouring Marge, who 'has' to believe that. Whereas Marge *really* believes that it's true.

It's that kind of layering which is brilliant.

Most writing has a single thread, a single point of view.

At it's best, The Simpsons interweaves these perspectives. Great.

I *will* put stars around words when I need to. *Some* people don't need them, but a lot of people are *keyword*-driven.

If it had been a lie, it would have had the "i'm worried" Marge-tone to it. Marge is totally screwed up. Don't forget that she said "please don't leave me", to her Daddy. Look at how difficult it was for her to hide the chilli-cookoff.
