You know the sign of a masterpiece when the couch gag is the highlight of the episode, and the fact the couch gag seemed as long as the first act. (Could this be the first Simpsons episode with FOUR acts!?)
Anyway, after the commercial break, we have a Homer joke that blows, and boy IT BLOWS! After about four minutes and one joke that stopped being funny three minutes ago, Homer is still trying. Like a show in it's 18th season, Homer is just keeps trying, and trying...One month and Six house fires later and stating the obvious, Homer is proving how great he is as father by saying he set the house on fire one of the preivious times (what?). Marge, playing it "safe", gets fireproofed, but even that fails! Thanks to Homer's premarital stink spray and a pair of headlights (sounds like Homer and Marge's wild night out! Thus proving Marge did for the Wookie) The unsafe safe blows, like most of this episode, and that leads into a Wal-Mart moment of the family retaking their photos. Hey, at least the writers are using REAL fake sentiment! Getting into the real plot (at over half the episode being over, no pressure) Homer's camera-izing leads him to the shady world of celebs coming and going. (Homer could've gotten a pic with Paul McCartney holding a fake leg, or something). Oddly enough, Homer sells the pictures to a dud who sounds remarkably like the Mr. Jameson from Spiderman, hmm...At least they did get a fake celeberty to be funny, as opposed to the real ones--Paris Texan!
But wait, would they let Homer get away with his Kodak-natzi schitick? NO! The celeberties have obvously seen "Guess who's Coming to Critsise Dinner" and decide to let him have a taste of his own medicine...MWHAHAHAAHA! Er, um, anyway, when "Bomer Simpson Illustrated" makes the rounds, Homer starts clotting along, and gives up taking pictures...almost, and the celebs, of course, go back to their right-wing, Christian lifestyles. But when Homer has second thoughts, Springfield's luckiest citizen, Moe, lets Homer have his camera because he couldn't get pics of ladies on the can, but as his luck would have it, women enter the bar after he gives him the camera! WHO DIDN'T SEE THAT ONE COMING!!!??!!?
And in the end, they all come to a sudden, happy ending, and not because of anything plot related, but because King of the Hill was about to air. We did learn that characters on the show rip off ideas from one another, which begs the question, who stole this idea from the world of Simpsons fanfiction!?
GRADE: D+ (better than "When You dish Upon a Star, but that's like saying hip replacement surgery is better than a broken neck.)
