I noticed in Homer's first dream that God had 5 fingers and in the final dream, God had 4. Anyone else catch that?

How is this not the same episode? "Homer the Heretic" is when Homer stops going to church, and the part that I quoted is when he feels free, being alone. This is the same episode. I've seen it at least a dozen times!!

I just asked you not to post your replies above the quoted text (top posting). It is common practice on usenet to post your replies BELOW the quoted text. If you look at everyone's posts in here, with the exception of the few new people that haven't caught on and a handful of trolls, you will see that they all post to the bottom. It keeps the quoted pieces of the thread in a logical top-to-bottom order so that someone who missed the post you are replying to sees the orginal first and then your reply. Also, even if you (like some) think that it's better to have the new part at the top so you don't have to scroll down, you should at least realize that everyone following the same practice helps preserve the chronology of the quoted thread. Notice how the quoted parts above are out of order because I posted my reply to the bottom and then you came and posted yours to the top. The generally accepted practice on all of usenet (not just this group) is to post replies to the bottom, and I was just providing a helpful suggestion to you, as a newbie, to do the same.

I am one of the more easy-going and helpful regulars in this group. I'm sorry that my typo made it seem like I was telling you not to post. If you had been here long enough to know me, you would have known that's not what I meant to say.

Well the rest of us find people who can't follow the accepted standard annoying as well as discourteous. As I said before, everyone doing it the same makes it a lot easier to follow threads and the majority bottom post, so you should do the same. Also, there's that whole most people read top-to-bottom so bottom posting keeps everything in a logical order thing, but maybe you find logic and order annoying as well. There's really little point in quoting text if you are going to top post.

Well, on second thought, I guess I shouldn't really speak for anyone but myself. It does seem to be the general feeling of the group though. We've had these discussions in the past and many people expressed the same views I have. In the end, I don't really care how anyone posts. I was just trying to be helpful to a new person (though I was in a bad mood and it may have come across as less than helpful), so they could make the informed decision to either follow the accepted practice or not.

If top-posting is not acceptable, why does the cursor go to the top position everytime I hit "reply"? Hmmmm? Maybe that's how the designers figured it to be the easiest to use? Just a theory.

Or maybe it's because Outlook Express is primarily an email application and that is the standard way people reply to email. You can change the preferences to make the cursor go to the bottom if it's too hard for you to click it where you want it.

And here's an odd, but serious, question. Is there a way to put the scroll bars on the left side? Being left-handed I would find this more comfortable. My guru doesn't know of any way to do this.

Short answer "no" with a "but", long answer "yes" with an "if"...

There is a way to do this, as RTL (right-to-left) languages such as Hebrew have codepages that allow the scrollbars, menus and so on to be reversed. The two problems with this approach are:

1. You would have to switch languages, or create a codepage of your own that used English, but inverted the scrollbars. This is way beyond all but a few Windows users.

2. Even if you -could- do this, the Windows support for this is notoriously spotty. IE: it doesn't work consistently, even when you get it working. Part of the problem is that applications are written assuming the scrollbar will appear on the right, and don't like being told otherwise.

Short answer, no. There is no practical way of doing this on Windows, unless you code your own email/news client. Even then it would be hard.

If you actually want to do it, it is pretty simple. Just go into the preferences section that deals with how messages are composed and there should be an option where to place the insertion point (before or after quoted text). Though, of course, that would make it place it there for both email and news messages. So I guess it's a matter of which method you prefer for each and which you use more.

I myself do not know of a way, but that is just me. I never thought about that...I would certainly find it annoying to have them on the left. Maybe that should be an option just like making the mouse "left handed"

Also, no one said it wasn't "acceptable" I said bottom posting was the "accepted standard" maybe a better choice of words would have been "standard practice." Either way, no one is REQUIRED to follow the standard, it just makes things a lot nicer when they do. Besides I see you bottom posting half the time anyway, so you must not have too much of a problem with it.
