actually, according to merrian-webster, it's mono-rail

Last I checked, "mono" is not a monosyllabic word (or portion of a word)... You're looking at the word origin not the pronunciation. The actual pronunciation listed at m-w (which is the next line below what you saw) is:

Pronunciation: 'm�-n&-"rAl

So I should have had "mo-no-rail" instead of "mon-o-rail" (my bad)... Still a word with *three* syllables (not 2 or 4 though)...
