Last Night's eps of Simpsons and Malcom

Anyone else notice that these episodes were similar? Except Malcom had only 2 stories.

did they showing "bowling" last night? that episode was a classic.

extremely inovative, and hilarious. not since M*A*S*H have ground-breaking(for sit-com) techniques been employed.

For the record, "Bowling" was already done by a Frasier episode earlier this season, inspired by the movie "Sliding Doors." And let's not forget MitM's constant effort to rip off ground that The Simpsons covered years ago..

And other recent techniques for sitcoms would classify as ground-breaking as well. Off the top of my head I recall Seinfeld's "The Betrayal" (inspired by the Broadway play "Merrily We Roll Along") and our own "22 Short Films About Springfield," (inspired by "Pulp Fiction"). Both came after M*A*S*H (not pun intended).

I think "22" was inspired mainly by "32 Short Films About Glenn Gould," although several of the stories contained mini-references to other movies.

I'm impressed that you've read the Complete Guide, but the episode contained more references to and plot elements from "Pulp Fiction" than it did "Glenn Gould."

Merrily We Roll Along may have done the backwards thing but I would say the Seinfeld episode The Betrayal was inspired by the play The Betrayal (which was a story of a failed marriage that runs backawards from the spliting of the couple to their meeting) they even used the same title.

Let's not forget The X-File's time-goes-backwards episode (Redrum). This just left King of the Hill as the only non-time-wacky show of the night.

I unfortunately missed most of the first story (I would conjecture, Homer's day). What I want to know is how did Homer get his thumb cut off. Also, how did Marge end up stealing a car. And why did Homer care about the robut (name?) if in "Lisa's day" he shrugged it of and ignored it.

Besides those and the Futurama (already mentioned), one of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes my local affiliate played last night was "Cause and Effect," in which a time loop causes the Enterprise to be destroyed in every act except the last..
