I have a request of all of you and I think it will make things easier for all of us. When you respond to something, you dont have to quote the entire thing first, if we visit a "Re: something" we would have read the original. This makes everything confusing so please stop Thanks
Could you all please...
Good Idea.

Are we going for irony here? Or is it just a funny side effect of the whole thing. Mmmmmmm.....irony.

"Gay" is not a synonym for "bad."
Remove "bination" to reply.

It is common Usenet courtesy to point out what text you are replying to. ESPECIALLY if that text is very long and you just want to make a comment or two about what the previous poster wrote, i.e. not write about the *entire* post.
And secondly, it does *not* make everything confusing to quote previous posts. Rather, it makes everything clear. Let's say we're in a thread about Lisa's sax (for instance, someone posts: "What episode shows how Lisa got her first sax?"). Then, somwehere in the middle of it all, the conversation jumps to something else (let's say someone replies somewhere: "Oh yeah, and they showed a clip where she plays with Bleedin Gums Murphy". Someone else replies to this reply: "Whatever happened to that guy?". and someone else replies:"I never liked Bleeding Gums Murphy. Bill Clinton - now *there's* a sax player!"). Now let's say you want to reply to the Bleedin Gums-reply. Let's also say you don't quote any text. You write for example: "Isn't he dead?"
Okay. Now let's think about people who read your post. The topic is"Re:Lisa's Sax" and your post is "Isn't he dead?". Now you could be talking about Clinton as well as BG Murphy!
Not quoting text is just as bad as top posting. It's what I call a 'Jeopardy' effect. You read the answer, but you don't know the question being answered.
Once again; a bad simile from the master of making bad similes.

Exactly. No context, no meaning.
In addition, not everybody has read the original posts to which the other person is replying to. Or, if there have been twelve responses since then and you want to pick out one particular point in one particular response and elaborate, certainly you can't expect everybody to remember the content of all twelve posts and which people posted what. I kill enough brain cells on this newsgroup already.
I agree wole heartedly.
Seriously, now, you've really walked into this one, haven't you?

Problem is, some newsreaders don't thread messages properly. Outlook Express is famous for putting the wrong response after a different post.
Plus, messages never make it to every newsserver. If you're missing the original, you're screwed. It's important IMO to include the most relevant info in the post, and also the poster's name and post ID.
That was the most brilliant thing I've ever read, but the rest of you are idiots. I can't agree with this statement more, though.
