Can anyone tell me what the name of the song is that is sung while Homer is in space? Also, who was the character that sung it and who voiced that character?

Yeah, except that is from "Fire and Rain" which is the song he is singing when they cut back to him after Kent Brockman's report.

The funniest thing about that song was the changed line. The original song goes: "sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground".

In the episode, just after he sings that line, he corrects himself "sweet dreams and flying machines, flying safely through the air".
