We certainly have ring doughnuts here, but we also have non-ring doughnuts, that have jam or other fillings inside.

That there is the Old World version of a jelly donut/doughnut. The American versions usually fill it with strawberry or raspberry goop (despite Homer's assertion that purple is a donut filling as well as a fruit, I have yet to see a purple-filled jelly doughnut). I was thinking the same thing, especially since the stuff in filled doughnuts is never really described (it's impossible to read the slogan without laughing)...

I did this one time, too. I had never had a pickled egg, and one of the guys I worked with told me how good they were. We worked at a pizza place, and he would take home the left-over brine from the banana peppers (oh, God, I know this sounds so Moe-like, making off with left-over food-stuffs), hard-boil a dozen eggs, pickle them for a couple of weeks, then enjoy.

I made up my mind to do the same. My first pickled egg, I thought, "man, I've just wasted a dozen eggs!" It was like eating a sour eraser. But after you acquire the taste, there's nothing quite like it.

I also recommend kim-chee.

I developed a taste for them after eating them in various sandwich joints. After watching my tape of http://www.snpp.com/episodes/7G01.html around 14 billion times, I bought a gallon jar of hot wax peppers and pickled my own in the fridge the way you described. Now that was MOE like it!
