Monty Python fans?

As a Monty Python fan, I couldn't help but react when I browsed through snpp.com just now. In the capsule to 3F03, "Lisa the Vegetarian" (one of the all-time greatest eps, BTW), I noticed this:

Troy: Come on Jimmy, let's take a peek at the killing floor.
Jimmy: Ohhh!
Troy: Don't let the name throw you Jimmy. It's not really a floor,
it's more of a steel grating that allows material to sluice
through so it can be collected and exported.
-- Troy nearly got in at Hendon, "Lisa the Vegetarian"

This quote comment is clearly a reference to the infamous "Architect Sketch", which can be found in entirety at:

http://www.montypython.net/scripts/architec.php

So, my question is... clearly either (or both) James Cherry and Gary Goldberg, the episode capsule summarizers, are Monty Python fans - or at least are very familiar with their work - but: What is the general attitude towards Monty Python among Simpsons fans? Are there any huge MP fans here besides myself? :-)

I've only seen the MP movies and a few of the TV episodes, but I consider myself a fan. The Criterion "Life of Brian" is great, and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is playing in selected theatres across the country currently. ________________________________________________________________

Dude, the "Flying Circus" is about 1,000 times better than any of the movies. The movies aren't bad; they're just paced much slower. Flying Circus was fast-paced sketch comedy, which those guys did really well.

I agree.

It used to come on GPTV (Georgia Public TV) late at night. I set my VCR to record them. I had almost 2 full VHS cassettes of them, commercial free!

Then my jackass brother recorded over them with WWF wrestling. Both tapes!!!

I'll never forgive him... It doesn't come on anymore... ... ...

They have collections on tape. You can rent them from Blockbuster or purchase them.

Yeah, but it's not the SAME!

I learned how to program the VCR for those tapes! I got up every morning and watched them while getting ready for school... Sentimental value, I guess

I'm going to have to duck and cover here, but the ending of "Holy Grail" always dissatisfies me. I just don't like it.

My favorite Flying Circus episode was the one done completely in German. Hurray!

The first time I saw Holy Grail was in English class in high school and we were almost to the end of the movie when the bell rang and our teacher said "well that's ok...you're not really missing much by not seeing the very end anyway!"

It drove me nuts and I went and rented the thing so I could see "what happens"...boy did I feel dumb.

All of it. I fell asleep when I watched it (tired) and then rewound to see if I could figure out why the hell it ended that way.

I couldn't.

No, this is getting far too silly. Now for something completely different.

Here's something scary. Ian Maxtone Graham is a huge Monty Python fan and is the only television he watched before joining The Simpsons.
