If THOH XII was anything to go by, we can only hope so. Too much random crap going on. I hope they bring out a corker, because some of my favourite eps. are the thoh's.

All the people working on the THOH episodes do nowadays is use them as excuses to kill or hurt the characters in as bloody a way possible. They dont even try to be suspenesful.

Back then, THOH meant not just fun but also Halloween atmosphere and suspense and well-done references to movies and series (like classic Twilight Zone or 60s/70s movies.) Let�s not forget literature, just take the 1984 refs in brilliant "Time & Punishment".

Modern THOH is often (as already said) just an excuse for even wackier plotlines than usual and the most important element is not atmosphere and smart parodies but gross stuff and simple jokes. IMO pretty meh.

Two things THOH is good for today...

1) an excuse for the writers to kill off as many characters as possible in a span of 7 minutes

2) an excuse to pump out those THOH playsets every year, a scalpers delight. Of course, the general public cant find em, but what the hell, the scalpers can!!

To add an IMO important thing to my last post - the style of recent THOH can also show us the big problems of popcultural adaptation.

To give you an example - take an inspired political satire like the great "Citizen Kang" segment from THOH VII and compare it to new stuff like the Harry Potter parody from recent Treehouse. What�s the difference?

Yeah,,but neither of those hold up very well,,i mean, imagine someone 20 yrs from now watching citizen kang and not understanding the ross perot joke. At least Harry Potter is a literary ref since books and movies are more or less timeless.

The Harry Potter parody has no real satirical base (for example about commercialization of Harry Potter stories and the big merchandise industry behind them) but was just a parody of a recent cultural element and to me that�s less interesting for the future than a nice satire.

Well I thought they were both pretty bad; that's just my opinion though. I thought the best TOH's were II-V, and I think the eigth one was better than any of the one's after that ( That's just going by an episode guide with titles only though ).

I thought this last year of The Simpson's was the best in awhile, so I think TOH 13 might be good. Hopefully it'll have three good horror parodies, and a funny linking segement.

What do you guys think they should do?
