When Syndication Works

it's like the local station read my mind! they showed the 4 episodes i didn't have on tape and never saw all this week! and they're not in a row season-wise or anything, our station jumps around, but what a stroke of luck! i can now say i've seen every simpsons episode! i just thought i'd share that, cause, well, you know, it makes me feel like a big man, and i have to toot my own horn cause i'm hard-friggin-core. ok, that wasn't enough to destroy your sarcasm detectors. the point here is that syndication IMHO is a mixed blessing that can work out despite the editing they do around here. it'll tide me over until i can see the unedited versions. okay, later.

it was kinda hard to see season 12 while freezing my ass off for 16 months near the siberian border with no electricity. had someone tape for me but they missed a couple. our local station is now showing season 12 mixed up with others and they happened to show the ones my designated taper missed (damn wednesday night premieres!). so that's why i hadn't seen every episode until recently, which i think is an ok excuse. it's the feel-good story of the year!

nope. i actually "volunteered" to go. why? oh, i just don't know. in the midst of some strange liquor cloud i thought it would be a good idea. it was a great experience and all that, but i got real sick with parasites and allergies and looking back i wish i would've done something better with over a year of my early twenties. oh well. there's a lesson in here for all of us - it's better to watch stuff than to do stuff. and self-improvement is better left to people in large cities.

What exactly did you do over there? This sounds like it would be an interesting story.

huh, when there *was* a toilet! there's this phenomenon in outhouses in subzero temps where it all collects frozen into a big cone cause it freezes practically right after it comes out. some refer to it as the shitsicle. i liked to call it the stalagshite. and if you weren't careful it could actually poke you in the rear as you squatted! i'm not kidding about this.

i was teaching english, teaching basic first aid, HIV/AIDS awareness education, water sanitation education (lots of water borne parasites and whatnot), teaching german, helping with math, etc. i was actually in mongolia, but it was a russian satellite for 70 years and there was a substantial russian population where i was living. it *is* an interesting story. more than i can say in ten volumes. totally surreal. i'm still trying to make sense of all the crazy stuff i saw over there.

When will people learn, Syndication doesn't work!!
