Oh, and next week's game is in PRIME TIME, so we can't even get our hopes up. If Fox wants to be a sports network, fine. If that's where the money is, fine. But quit taking shows that have big followings, and scheduling them in a time slot that they KNOW means repeated pre-emptions. Then wonder where your audience went for those shows.

Furthermore, I couldn't give two shits about the shows that follow the Simpsons (I tried to like Arrested Development... tried and failed.)

I can remember, when I was growing up, waiting for Star Trek to come on (the original series, in syndication) and being PO'd if it was delayed for a hockey game. CBC used to at least show the program after the game. I guess the only way around this now is to get satellite TV and watch The Simpson's broadcast for another time zone.

That might work if you get one of the big dishes, but if you mean DirecTV or Dish Network, it won't work. You only get the national network feeds if you live in an area where they don't provide your local stations. As far as local stations go, you can't get out-of-area locals, so if they offer your local FOX affiliate, that will be your only FOX choice.

It used to be possible to trick them by lying about your address. E.g., if you live in, say, New York, you could give a billing address in Los Angeles, and get the LA local stations instead of the NY local stations, but that won't work any more. It used to work because they broadcast all stations to everywhere, and the restriction that NY people don't get LA locals was enforced in the software in the receiver.

However, a while back, they switched to "spot beams" for the locals. The LA locals are sent in a narrow beam that only goes to that region. Same for the NY locals. They did this because of regulations that required them to carry all the locals for each area they served. There weren't enough channels to do that if each local station went to the whole country. With the spot beams, they can use the same channels several times, on different spot beams.

I've heard good things about Arrested Development, but I refuse to even try it, because it is on FOX. I'll never ever watch a new series on FOX again. It's easier and less frustrating to just wait for FOX to screw it up, and then catch it on syndication (if it manages to last long enough to get enough episodes) or on DVD when the complete series comes out (if it only lasts a few episodes).
