I'll field this one... Homer most likely didn't have a good idea (or any idea) what a Buddhist was, so maybe he thought some pervert in a chat room introduced Lisa to some sort of cult or sexual thing. I agree with Anthony, how is it a crack at internet fans? I haven't seen too many a.t.s postings suggesting that Buddhism is the true faith for all Simpsons fans...

Seemed pretty clear the joke was, Homer thought that "chat rooms" were corrupting her...putting funny ideas in her head.

I can't really think of how this would be a dig at Simpson fans. Maybe if Simpson fans had been howling for years that Lisa should be a Buddhist. But seeing as how that is not the case....its just a joke about homer blaming the net, since it's a convenient scary scapegoat, which he doesn't understand and fears.

Note that I used the words "Internet fans" and not "online Simpsons fans."

If by "fans" you mean "users," sure. I have never heard of people who use chat programs referred to as "internet fans," since it's not really accurate, but whatever blows your skirt up....

Still, you're right, it IS really stupid for everyone who responded to this thread to have assumed you meant Simpsons fans, even though this is a Simpsons fan newsgroup, and the writers have in the past made jokes about obsessive net-using Simpson fans. On behalf of all of us, I apologize.

And the writers weren't taking a "crack" at "fans" of anything. It was a crack at Homer for being ignorant. Unless your subject line just meant "Simpson writers mention the internet again." In which case yes, thank you for pointing that out.

What we were supposed to think he meant? "fans of the internet?" what the hell is that? Of course we are going to assume the term "internet fan" meant "internet users who are simpsons fans" Otherwise...his post was really pointless unless, like you said, he was pointing out that they were picking on users of the internet in general.
