The joke about Matthew using the hunt for baby Jesus at a starter to his Gospel refers to his interpretation of the life of Jesus. According to his Gospel, King Herrod, afraid that Jesus would overthrow him as king when he grows up, wanted Jesus killed while he was still an infant. His original plan was to have the three wise men report back to him after their visit with Jesus. However, when the Wise Men were told to avoid meeting with Herrod and take a different way home, Herrod then had a different plan to get rid of Jesus: he had all the infant children in his kingdom killed. Unfortunately for the king, God informed Joseph of Herrod's plan, and he and his family left Bethlehem before the infant genocide began.

Haiku is a form of poetry that originated in Japan. A haiku consists of verse that consists of five syllables, followed by a verse with seven syllables, and it ends with another verse of five syllables.

Also, during the '70s the T of R Parade was covered on LA radio by The Credibility Gap comedy group, among whose members was Harry Shearer. There's a great LP compliation of their coverage (think MST3K) titled FLOATS that's worth checking out.

The specific "Lost in Space" reference is to Dick Tufeld, the man who did the voice of the robot.

"Fear of Flying" - Lisa is the Lost in Space robot in the dream scene, and she says "Danger, Danger!".

In the BIMONSCIFICON episode, Dick Tufeld voiced the "Danger Bart Simpson" line.

In the episode where Homer sees his funeral, the Lost in Space robot was there, and did not talk.

I used to live a block and a half from the parade route, and had on-street parking. God, that sucked...basically I had to park a couple days before the parade and not use my car, or I'd lose my spot and not be able to park anywhere near my apartment.

The other thing that sucked was the prices. Starting a few days before the parade, the Pasadena merchants near Colorado Blvd jack up their prices. I remember going to lunch once, ordering my usual, and having it come to three times the normal price. (Then the owner whispered to the cashier, "He's local", and they rang up the normal price, but not all merchants did that).
