Huh? The moment you post from dejanews/google, occasional glitches aside, the post leaves their system. People reading the newsgroups on other newsservers can read the message as soon as the message has propogated to the site, which at this point is pretty fast.

Yes, dejanews/google updates their archives in batches, every four hours or so. From checking (though some months back) it seems to be 9:30am, 1:30pm, 5:30pm, 9:30pm, 1:30am (and presumably at 5:30am, though I've not been up to check), Eastern Standard time. Whether you get into the next update depends on how close after the last update you post. I have no idea when the gate closes. I suppose it would be easy to check, simply keep posting at five minute intervals to a test newsgroup, numbering them and keeping track of the time you posted.

And often, you will see replies to your posts showing up in the archive in the same update as your own, proving that others have had a chance to read it and still get into the next update.
