This is explained on an audio commentary (I think it was blood feud? Anyone know?) Homer is wearing a watch to check the time, and it is gone later. As the people on the comentary explain, it is what is referred to as a "function prop" or something. It is animated only until it is no longer needed and then removed to save having to keep animating it in following scenes.

There is no deep second or third meanings to it. Let it go. Listen to the commentary if you don't beleive me.

Thanks for the input, I had never thought of a "function prop" before, but I must disagree, I believe it is appropriate to post. The episode capsules are full of this stuff. (but not including this one) I'm sure there are regulars and many lurkers that appreciate this type of post, as do I when others post.

Maybe the newbie can stop talking about the "regulars" of the group and the appropriateness of posts for one second? Just because the capsules contain this kind of stuff doesn't mean it's precious, sought-after data on the group. I've been here a good five or six years now and I don't recall anyone ever being so rabid about pointing out a DYN from a decade-old episode like a two year old after his first solo potty mission as you have been. If you want to make pedantic, derivative, fairly obvious observations, be my guest, but use some goddamn discretion and e-mail it to SNPP instead of wasting our time and bandwidth--you're bordering on SPAM and that's against the netiquette set forth in the rules of the FAQs you've never read. Had you bothered to lurk here first before posting up a stom and pretending to be an expert on the ins and outs of alt.tv.simpsons, you'd know that capsule submissions on the group tend to have a cut-off point of a week or two after the episode first airs, not TWELVE YEARS AFTER THE FACT. Just because you deem something noteworthy does not mean that the climate of the group in general is going to have a positive response to it.
