Yeah, the improve between their characters that they did was actually more comedically well done then almost any of the dialogue this year. Maybe they oughta get Shearer to write for the show. At least he aknowledges its been much better.

He also wrote, IMHO, one of the best and funniest episodes of the entire series "Homer Goes to College". That was in Season 5. That season also had "Bart Gets Famous" which has a scene where Bart is a guest on the Conan O'Brien show. "Homer Goes to College" was in the first part of the season, around "Treehouse of Horror" time and "Bart Gets Famous" was in late winter/early spring. I think Conan's show started around the same time "Homer Goes to College" aired. It was probably the last, or close to last, thing Conan did creatively for the show.

Well, yeah, it did suck, compared to something that a professional writer or team of writers sat down and pondered over, wrote out, revised, revised some more, etc. Consider how funny you or I would be if we were on national TV and were suddenly called upon to be funny!

Well, Shearer is a professional writer, and Dan is a professional actor, and it wasn't like they just heard about the gig five minutes ago.

Happens quite a bit, really. When you're invited on a chat show, you're expected to be funny.

I thought there appearance was a little too "Just say the line kid"/"I didn't do it".

What happens is that a PA talks to each guest to find out what might be entertaining and/or plug-necessary on the show. Any guest with experience will have some stories saved up, and the host may or may not cue them.

That part was I suppose rather idiotic(still better then this season), but the scene with Homer getting fired by Mr. Burns was good.

I recorded this Conan thing late Thurday nite, it was to have been. So I watched it, waiting, hoping. Luckily for me it was in EP so I could scan thru fast. I missed the final 10 minutes (I believe they began later than 12:30 am) and never saw beyond a stand-up comic with white hair and a smoker's voice.

I missed the voice artists I'd hoped for. Lesson learned: Conan is awful, but it is funny to watch him as he looks like a beady-eyed cartoon of a guy.

You don't like Conan?  He's easily the best late night talk show host on right
now, IMO.

No one a whole lot. I'll usually watch Leno's monolog (& Headlines on Mondays), then switch over to Letterman to try to catch the Top Ten. Haven't liked Letterman from the first because he's so nasty towards his guests. Depending on the guests, I may be done with both of them.

Can't stand Kilborn, way too smarmy, and I don't find Conan funny.

Leno's monologues are like watching a car wreck. You know you shouldn't watch because they're so bad but you can't help yourself. He seems to be going for quantity not quality with his 15 minute monologues, hoping that he'll make one funny joke. And he relies way too much on humor sent in from others (Headlines) or "man on the street" type things. ________________________________________________________________

Those are separate from the monolog. The "man on the street", "Iron Jay", etc., bits are generally crappy. I just don't like Letterman.

Conan is amusing, but David Letterman is just in another league altogether. Conan would even admit that. Conan is probably the funniest host but his problem is that he's a terrible broadcaster. On any given night count all the awkward silences during his "desk time" when a guest isnt there. He seems very unnatural in front of the camera. Watching Dave, even during his early seasons, it appears as if he actually lives on his set hes so comfortable and in controll. Oh... Conans show is also a rip off of what Letterman was doing in the 80's.

Don't get me wrong, I like Letterman. But he does the same jokes so many times each week. I don't watch him regularly, but when I do watch him for at least a week at a time, he usually does the same fake commercial or something each day. Letterman and Conan, IMO, are both great with the guests, but Conan has better sketches. I'd put them about equal on monologues, though I prefer Conan just a bit more. I got to see this last night...it was fantastic! I just wish Conan would have kept them on longer than one segment. I would have much preferred another bit with them to the crappy band that closed the show.

Awesome!! The only time I have heard Dan before is when he and Yeardly did a brief interview in Canada and Dan came off as developmentally disabled in that one. I can see now that he's intelligent, creative and funny!
