Missionary:Impossible

I would just like to express my hate for this episode. What episode(almost matched by Jocky Elves, but at least that episode had a couple moments) has tellitubbies chasing Homer along with Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird. Not to mention the worst ending in simpsons history. What the hell were they thinking when they thought nobody would notice that Homer obviously falls into a volcano and basically the episode doesnt have an ending. Cmon at least show Homer get out of it somehow. Some people care about these characters a little bit. Give the fans respect dammit. Does anybody have any objections to this? I would love to hear them.

I thought it was a good episode. I don't care about plot, or characterization (as long as it isn't way far out), just how funny it is. This episode was funny.

Even worse than the Jockey Elves? Even worse than the surfing that ruined The Great Money Caper? And how about the whole second half Bart the Mother where the bird eggs are actually lizard eggs?

Why on earth is the local station showing us Season 10 and 11 episodes over and over? At least the writers had the good sense to kill off Rosie O'Donnell. :-)

One thing about the ending that was a bit funny is that it *is* a good parody of what PBS (or the begging stations as my favorite radio talk host David Brudnoy likes to refer to them) does -- interrupting perfectly good shows for these irritating pledge drives.

No, British TV rules. It's just the crap we export to you lot that sucks. Oh, alright then, most of it does 'suck'. But at least we've got Brass Eye*, Black Books, Spaced, Attention Scum, etc. It's just that they don't fit in with the lazy stereotypical idea that many American citizens have of us, and therefore wouldn't go down well.

Still, ya gotta love them Python re-runs.

Also, a few years ago, my parents had to replace the seat on one of their toilets. On the box with the new seat, it said "European styling". Do Europeans have different-shaped asses than us Americans?

Of course, I think we have to take into account the fact that PBS demographics lean toward those of a political bent that the US isn't as good as Europe due to the lack of government intervention in many areas (eg. health care). It would follow naturally that they think European entertainment is therefore better than US entertainment.

Then again, it was Sweden that gave us Survivor, and the Netherlands that gave us Big Brother. ;-)

It all depends on the station. Some stations air episodes from all points in the run, like in Dallas. They have two eps, at 5:30 and 6:30. But they skip all around the run.

Then there's the stations that stay in the 1998-2000 time warp. Thank goodness we just got out of that stage, although the Sunday evening reruns are getting real close to that era.

Which was a dream sequence. That episode did have the garbage erupting through the ground, though, which was just as ridiculous as Oscar appearing, and not as funny. For what it's worth, I thought the chase scene was amusing ("Elmo knows where you live!"), but not very Simpson-esque. It would have fit better in "Family Guy" (which, incidentally, was mocked in the episode) or some such.

I liked that last one, actually. The others were pretty dumb, though. At least the pledge drive was funny, even if it didn't provide any resolution for the episode.

Hee hee - I remember starting an anti-MI thread about a year ago in this newsgroup, 'cos of pretty much the same reasons as is mentioned here, i.e. the bad ending, and the over-the-top scene involving the Teletubbies, Big Bird etc. I'd very much prefer to see Simpsons' episodes and themes stick to a reasonable sense of realism, although obviously there are a lot of viewers out there who don't place a hell of a lot of importance on that. Well, either that, or the writers just refuse to listen to their audience...
