Nancy Cartwright spoke for about an hour this afternoon at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. The wide-ranging talk covered her path to Hollywood from Dayton, Ohio, her appearance with the other Simpsons actors on "Inside the Actors Studio," and the recording session she did with Meryl Streep some years ago for the "Bart's Girlfriend" episode. She said that a "record" took place yesterday without her, as she was traveling to Michigan, but she will do the pick-up of all her characters' lines at the end of the week.
Nancy also mentioned that a script for The Simpsons feature film is now being written, and her sense was that it would be two to three years before the movie's premiere. I suppose that might be pushed back even further if the TV show is still in production at that time, since I don't think the producers want to release the movie until the show's series finale has aired.
Of course, as you might expect, Nancy performed some dialogue from her best-known Simpsons characters, including Bart (duh), Nelson, Ralph, Rod and/or Todd (I still can't keep them straight, heh), plus a little of the "older Bart" that she does in flash-forward scenes. ("More creamed corn, Jimbo Jr.?") There was a bit of a maudlin moment during the Q&A at the end, when a young fan requested a performance of his favorite Milhouse dialogue. Nancy pointed out that Milhouse is performed by Pamela Hayden, and the kid looked pretty disappointed. Oh well, at least it was interesting to learn that Milhouse has his fans!
A book-signing concluded her appearance, and I'd say about 200 people got autographs. I got my hardcover signed, but most of the other fans had a paperback copy (which I didn't know was out). Both her lecture and the book are titled "My Life As a Ten Year Old Boy."
