I've got the season 1 DVD (haven't had the money to pick up season 2), and I was trying to remember when The Simpsons changed from Homer and Marge trying to be the best parents they could be to Homer being less intellegent and bafoon-like. Watching the season 1 discs, I chuckled a few times, but nothing like the later seasons when I would bust a gut laughing. I know why they changed it, but does anyone remember when it all happened?

The Simpsons changed all the time. We all constantly change. Everything changes!! When a show has lasted as long as the Simpsons, we are bound to remember early shows in the same fashion we remmeber high school, our old neighborhood, a childhood friend, or our first love. It's more nostalgia than reality.
My favorite characters don't always make me laugh, and the jokes from long ago might not make me laugh now. But over all, the Simpsons will always have a place in my heart......unless I really change! :o)

A good analogy is if Metallica became a boy-band to catch a younger, more spendy, audience that would buy Metallica talking figures and other related merchandise. (Then imagine Metallica telling the fans of the early years to 'get a life' because they didn't like the direction of the new Metallica.)
That's what happend to the show.
