Yes, when Gil first made an appearance, he did seem straight out of that film, and sure seemed to me to be takeoff on Jack Lemon's character.
But with repeated appearances, he simply has become Gil. THe guy who can't keep a job, who struggles when he's at a job, who keeps showing up in brief appearances.
I think he works because he was based on Glengary Glen Ross, but I think he continues to work because he somehow has fit in, rather than being a single bit character, such as Diso Stu.

Yes, but Lionel Hutz mysteriously disappeared, with absolutely no explanation on the show. The implication is that perhaps Cookie Kwan got rid of Lionel Hutz through some nefarious means, giving her the chance to be #1 on the West Side.

Am I the only one who thinks the doctor in "Large Marge" is reminiscent of Doctor Nick Riviera? His accent seems just a less exagerated version of him, and then there does seem a bit of physical resemblance. Almost like a son, though we've already seen that with Frank Grimes, jr.
Or perhaps, this is Dr. Nick after going through some changes to escape charges, under a slightly different guise.
