So, I says to Edna, I says...

The recent thread on dame edna reminded me of an ep that had about the following convo in it:

Bart and Lisa at kitchen table. Bart: I says to Edna, I says...

Homer walks in. Bart (to Lisa): I'll tell you later.

Homer asks Bart a Q, Bart answers it. Homer leaves. Bart: So I says to Edna, I says... (End of scene)

Or similar to that. What ep is this, and what is it supposed to be a parody of?

it is: "so i says to mabel, i says . . . ."

not edna.

It's Mabel, it's from "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer," it comes from an old Vaudeville routine. You're the 29556982589402385th person to ask. :-/

Not just an old vaudeville routine...that's how old women talk in large chunks of New York and New Jersey.

In fact, that's exactly how my grandmother talks :o
