Ok, this idea has been floating around my head for a while, doing a SimpsonsCrap thread. We all know it's one of the, if not the, greatest show ever, we also all know it's been on the decline for a long-ass time. I always felt a website called WrestleCrap shouldn't always focus on "appreication" threads....so I wanna do this.

Please send me your nominations for the worst moments in Simpsons history, via PM to keep thinsg neater. Since I haven't seen every last episode, please include as much detail as possible and I'll post it whole or in part, depending on my whims or knowledge of the incident, however all your opinions will be included regardless. It won't be a top ten list of what-have-you, but rather, much like RD's site, celebrate the worst the Simpsons have had to offer so far. So please, send me your most hated Simpsons moment or episode.......you know the one I mean....and we'll discuss them all here.

MARGE AUDIBLY FARTS

Saleswoman:Thinking of saying goodbye to gas? Bart: You betcha. [burps] Marge:Bart! [flatulent noise] Well, that shut me up.

While the Simpsons had been on a downhill trajectory for almost 2 full seasons by the this point, it might be the lowest joke in the history of the series. A series once filled with parody, homage (or rip-offs, homages are black and white, colour is a rip-off, the Simpsons writer's explain), satire, and even black humour reduce themselves to a fart joke, and not a very clever one. I guess it's meant to shock, since Marge does it. However, in this instance, it just falls flat.

True, but remember, TV (and other media) has to evolve and adapt to the wishes of the majority of their customers, and sadly these days that majority thinks fart jokes *are* funny. 20 years ago, hardly any of the top rating shows today would have lasted a week. Now, watching fat people being humiliated on assault courses is regarded as 'cutting edge entertainment'.

This is the only one on the list that I really had no problem with. The death itself was a little strange but they didn't overdo it. In the long run I think they've actually done interesting things with Ned as a widower.

Ah, not so bad.

Major yes. Probably the worst episode of the series--not just Snowball II's death, but all the other cats dying off too. And the other story about Homer in a robot suit wasn't too good, either.

I'd add Mona's bizarre plan to spread her ashes in such a way as to interfere with Mr. Burns' rocket launch (how would she even know when she would die, let alone which way the wind would be blowing and such) and some of the rake scenes. The original rake scene was very funny and well done, but some of the others--for example, Homer going back and forth between his spilled nachos and Ned's girlfriend's cleavage--were, well, crap.

Agreed, they did use his widower status rather well. For example, the 'creepiness' of Ned maintaining Maude's creases in the bed was well done. Then again, if Maude was still around, I reckon they could have come up with equally good material (back then at least anyway).

The one notable moment that strikes me as very odd each time I see it is when Marge recovers from her Agoraphobia after being mugged... and then proceeds to kick the living shit out of the mugger. I didn't actually dislike that moment, but it sure seems weird watching Marge behave that way.

There's probably something for this list in that awful Spring Break/Gator episode as well, but I've blocked that episode from my memory.

Any episode where they resort to puke jokes.

The trips through hallways or air vents or tunnels with "cameos" of teachers smoking or Barney laying there drunk. Those are played, guys. TIRED.

Constant self-references.

Obvious filler.

That geek/nerd with the glasses.

Apu's babies, Patty's baby, Barney quit drinking, giving names to people who had no real name for years (the Crazy Cat Lady, Comic Book Guy, etc), episodes that are simply vehicles for some big-name star, talking to the audience, reusing jokes (it's not an island, it's a peninsula, Flanders' girly scream), the long drawn out "Whaaaat?!?", "I touched your heart" -WTF? , "I like putting animal to sleep", Lurleen Lumpkin's Daddy's hamboning routine, the cardboard castle and fight with UPS, Albert Brook's pointless unfunny adlibs, overuse of the guy who says "Yeeeeeeees", Skinner isn't really Skinner, changing and updating Homer and Marge's backstory, telling the audience to "shut your gob", Milhouse's parents stranded on the island (or was it a peninsula?)
